Control without confusion
« on: January 15, 2013, 10:46:28 AM »
Does anyone have this book written by Joe Clarke??  I am looking to purchase it and or borrow or rent it if you do not want to sell.  Its about 4 color process printing that was a suggested reading to me.  I do not see in on amazon or ebay, so I wonder how may are out there.  Has anyone read the book and can comment??  thanks in advance.

I have an autographed first edition somewhere in a box. The definitive tome on process printing. Talked to him earlier this year but lost contact info

I had it, no idea where it is now though. It was Joe Clarke and Mark Coudray, and a walk through of a Nocona Boots shirt, which at the time, came with the sample shirt. One of the best prints I ever saw, and that's 25 years ago now... A lot of the info is common knowledge now, well, maybe that's simplifying it, but even Mark Courdray has courses covering what was in the book, only I suspect in more depth, and with updated tools and techniques.

They still come up on Amazon, that's where I grabbed my copy.  IIRC, it set me back sixty or seventy bucks, but it's worth more than that.

Some Libraries have it, maybe they'd sell it. Click on this link, and on the right side of the page, click under Borrow

I saw Joe at SGIA and asked if he knew where I could get a copy. I lost mine in a flood. He unfortunately didn't have any.

I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence but I had a nice chat with Joe last night. Not suprisingly he has some interesting things going on. I'll keep you posted.

I got Joe on my speed dial.  I can spend 30 minutes on the phone with him and not feel like it was 5.  There are a few guys when you get to talk to you just soak it all in and realize the less you talk, the more you're going to learn, Joe is no doubt one of them guys.

I'm pretty sure I found my current copy used on Amazon as well. They're pricey, but good to keep around. I hand it to pretty much every printer that makes it past the 1-month mark here.

Joe sent me a couple of his Smilin' Jack squeegees to review last year, right before the ***t hit the fan here, & they're still sitting on my shelf -- I really need to get back on that, now that we've stabilized a bit. He's much more accessible than people think, given his pedigree in the industry. Great guy.

He sure is. I didn't mean to imply that I was someone special. Methinks he lurks here.
