CCI Samples
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:27:58 PM »
Hey Guys and Gals,
So wow, been away from here for about three weeks and I feel way out of touch. Had some family stuff and been working remotely from the road and the presses have been just swamped. Nov and Dec are two of our busiest months. Anyway, I was supposed to post sample pics of discharge from CCI. So here you go. Nothing fancy, just simple one and two color prints. (sorry for the crappy pics)

The two color is white and a pantone red on 100% cotton.

The one color blue is a pantone blue on 50/50 cotton/poly AA. Matched the pantone exactly.

The one color blue on the bandanna is a 20" x 20" print matching the pantone exactly. 100% cotton

Matsui does make a good product and we have used them for years but they seem to be focusing on other industries these days. Not sure when they have made any updates to their products or software. And speaking of mixing software it never worked for us. We had or own formulas. So we have gallons and gallons left that we will blaze through soon and then just make a complete switch to CCI.

What I have experienced with the CCI system is a simple formula to mix pantones and no clumping. Bright colors and general ease of use. Granted, I am sure sooner or later we might experience a problem here or there but we will see. And again nothing against Matsui as we learned to overcome our problems with it but if I was just starting out I would steer clear of it. I just hope if they want to continue in the market for apparel screen printers they update some of their products. And return phone calls and emails. But this is just my two cents. What might work in our shop might not in yours and I for sure learn something every day about our industry

Thanks guys. These are just simple jobs, nothing complex.

Just wanted to post some pics of the CCI products as I have been speaking to several people that either have them sitting in a box or want to try them out.

Well, they work. And the ease of use is nice.

Happy New Year and back to reality tomorrow. Sigh

Glad to hear they worked out. I love their base and white, and another pigment option is always good. What I'm wondering about is the additives we use from Matsui. Namely Printgen M or whatever the retarder is, it gets hot and dry here in the summer. We have a bucket of the extender from CCI, but not sure if that fits the bill.

I'm still hearing from my rep, Tad I think?, that they aren't ready to release these yet.

But I'll be at least checking out a sample set when it's "official".  Sericol is excellent but I've already hit a ceiling with the RFU inks and need PCs to at least supplement them.

We also use CCI D-White and Base and it's super excellent, best WB formula I've used, so I would be stoked to use it for colors too at some point.

Sericol is just to proud of their RFU inks.  They work great though.

I did suggest having a set of "color booster" pigments to supplement the RFUs to my rep.  Sericol can do a lot with their resources and do lots that they don't market or sell to smaller operations so who knows, maybe they will someday.

Hey Guys,
Yeah, we were told that fixer is not needed or printgen but we use them anyway. Works fine. Fixer is just so cheap to have that extra bit of insurance in my opinion. And I believe they are already on the market now. I was told January 1st. But we are switching over for sure. Good stuff

I have never used a single additive in my wb/dc prints, except water to thin.  It's not too hard to tell "in the field" when a dc print is not fully cured- it smells like DC ink.  Cured prints don't smell at all.

I could see keeping a gallon of fixer or some sort of cure booster on hand for those times when you have to push your dryer's limits.  And, if that additive is boosting the inks wash and color fastness, then why the hell not on every run?

I know rutland makes the regular and quick cure bases to address this but I don't really care for Rutland WB.

Oh, we do. Fixer on every run. Printgen on that rare, hot Seattle day.

Notice a big difference in colorfastness?  I want to wash test this, side by side and check it out.  Like, print a run with a good dc red.  Do a color change at the end and mix Fixer into the ink, print one more and wash the living bejesus out of it and one from the non-fixer run to see what's up.

My thought is that, if an additive like this is so beneficial wouldn't it already be in the ink right out of the bucket?

My thoughts exactly. But it's all about making the money. Why can't Adobe make Photoshop and Illustrator together at a cheaper price? They can but won't. But that is something else. Anyway, we just use it as insurance not really against the ink but the shirt itself. Like running a couple thousand Canvas t's where a third is from Egypt and a third from South America and the rest from somewhere else. Again, I trust our inks and mixes just not the substrate. It has helped in the past.

So I just heard from a little birdie that the batches of ink from CCI that we recieved have already been upgraded. Or are about to. They will have a "fixer" and "extender" already in the ink. Supposedly no more need for them.

Might be  due to the fact they hired a Sericol chemist
