New to printing. New to the forum.
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:45:06 AM »
Hi everyone,

My name is Matt, and I'm fairly new to the printing world. I've been in the business for about 6 months now, and I really love it!

The business I work for doesn't focus solely on printing, so I'm not doing anything remotely close to the production that most professional print shops put out. However, it's a great position for a beginner, and hopefully the print dept here will grow.

I print using three different machines. I use a M&R Chameleon for manual screen printing, and a M&R Sportsman for automatic screen printing. I also run a Brother DTG for smaller print jobs.

So far the information that I've picked up on this forum has been a great deal of help. Thanks to everyone sharing their wisdom.

Matt

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Yeah. It's nice to have options. Most of our business comes from military and academic work. So, t-shirts, stadium seats, hand fans, foam fingers, yard signs, lanyards, jackets, etc, etc, etc.

I use the automatic more than anything. The manual is usually reserved for air dry ink jobs (like the Nasdar 9700 series) which we use to print the hand fans, yard signs, and stadium seats. But I like it because I have more room to move the screen around. Theres only so much space to adjust the screen on the automatic.

The DTG was bought to make things a little easier on some jobs, and to save money on small t-shirt orders. Like I said, we aren't a professional print shop, we just happen to do printing. So a lot of what we do here I've had to learn on my own. And I'm definitely still learning!

We do, but it doesn't come from printing. The business generates most of it's profit from supplying the military with just about everything that isn't a weapon. Pins, badges, uniforms, hats, bags, straps, etc, etc, etc, etc. If it doesn't kill you, we sell it.

Glad to have this stuff at my disposal, however. Like I said, we print on a lot of different media, so it's nice to have options. The biggest benefit is that since we don't focus solely on printing, I have time to learn at my own pace.
