Total brain fart.....
« on: December 04, 2012, 05:41:40 PM »
Ok so I work mainly in Illustrator and I am not a font/text fan at all and I've been trying all kinds of things to recreate the "baseball" in the tail, but no matter what things I do it doesn't look the same (so I just redrew it) But I have run into this several times and I would like to know how to do it the right way.......

Yes I know this is a basic entry level question and once someone posts how to do it I'm going to have a "duh" "oh ya I remember that!" moment.....

for some reason the pic is turned sideways and I can't get it to post properly.....sorry..... Probably a Photobucket setting. Should be fixed now, Frog to the rescue, LOL!

Type on a path and then convert to outlines...then distort or transform but the newer ones have addition tools like perspective and 3d

Illustrator - Mesh Warp is your best bet, there is also another option to make make a warp with a top object.

After step 1 and 2 do "Object" - "Expand Appearance" so you get your true paths back.

Thanks for all the great replys! I tried the Mesh warp several time and it just doen't seem to work well for me or maybe I just don't understand how to use it properly. I also tried the "mesh with top object" and that looked worse!

IntegrityShirts I also tried the free distort and couldn't get it quite there...I guess I'll have to try again because you made it look so easy. It could be once again that I don't know the proper way to use the tool.

Oh and thanks for all the "in Corel that is easy" responses! LOL!!  ;)  I realize that by only using Illustrator I am limiting my self on what I can produce and should really look into adding Corel to my list of programs.

Hold shift while using free transform so you're locked on the vertical path, should help a little.  I'd probably squish the text horizontally a little before doing step 1 and 2 to get it closer to the art on the shirt.

Make sure you "expand appearance" in between steps or the program applies the filter to the original paths.

It's also very easy in Illustrator, it might take 45 seconds or so. How easy do you need it to be? Just kiddin', but give it a try...
