licensed to print Mississippi State University merchandise???
« on: November 28, 2012, 03:06:06 PM »
Quote request from Mississippi state. I ask for the graphic and then they ask me if I'm licensed with them... do I have to be licensed to print for a department of the university? If so is it worth it?

Don't know how similar the program would be, but I used to work for a collegiate licensed shop--With how it goes here, I personally wouldn't even think about licensing without a serious commitment from the customer.  We literally had to send them one of each design, actual printed garments--and unless you want to chance eating the whole order because it's not approved, you are one-offing every design and waiting for the OK before you set it up again.

The funny thing is, it seems like most of the faculty here is pretty unhappy with the situation because of the very short list of expensive shops in town they can use for 'school' stuff.  Pretty sad when they're talking about raising tuition and cutting programs, even when they make it that hard for you to make money for THEM.  Go figure.

We just got licensed for K-State stuff, Wichita State and a couple of smaller colleges in the state. Had to go through LRG... Licensed Resource Group.... Pay them money and got the schools to waive the fee but still have to pay them a percentage at the end of the year...... Buy "Official Licensed Collegiate Wear" hangtags from another place...... did get the schools to ok artwork by email..... what a pain it has been and so far only sold about 6K worth of ls and hoodies...... but, with all that said, it got our foot in the door of Walgreens at a local level and it is sales we didn't have last year. So in my opinion, it wouldn't be worth doing for a couple of small jobs but if you get out and hustle you can get bigger ones.

Moo-U.  I spent several years there in the early 70s.  Sometimes we get around licensing issues with one of our local universites by requesting a PO from the purchasing dept. That way we all know where we stand.

I was licensed with state a year ago but didn't do the right marketing to benefit from it.  Now I have restarted my licensing with Louisiana tech and will be moving on to other schools soon.

Yes you need to be licensed with them but they may grant you a one time exemption. If you decide to get licensed get ready for lots of paper work and bull crap.

Larryk, I'd like to talk to you about some things... Check your pm's
