list of dischargeable garments
« on: November 12, 2012, 05:08:33 PM »
Does anyone have a list of items that normally discharge without much issue. I have someone looking for charcoal gray. I am looking at pc61 and lpc61. Any thought?
Thanks in advance.

Discharged both those and they worked fine. That was our experience though, dye lots may vary!

Ok This brings up a question. How do you test your shirts before printing them?

I had some Navy shirts I wanted to run gold discharge on and didn't order any extras. This is what I did. I took one of the shirts. Flipped it inside out and then took a business card, stuck it in the mixed gold ink and wiped the card off on the side of the bucket. This just left a thin film of ink on the card. I then lightly wiped it on a inside seam, I did the seam so it would have a really hard time going through the shirt. I ran it though the dryer.

Anyone else do something like this?

Yes on swiping suspect garments, though we typically order at least one extra for it. Proper
penetration (for testing correct color, etc.) will show through to the other side.

Also, unless you test every size/dye lot/country of manufacture in the run, there's no way to tell
if errybody will play along nicely.

That said, we've had very few issues with garments/colors that we expect to be dischargeable.

we order 3% overage on average, maybe more for dc, depending.  But we're 3 to five days out on shirts and I got a printer with all of six months  experience under her belt and we just started printing dc.

swab test, adjust ink if needed, strike off (wait three minutes), check the strike off,  approve or adjust, hang approved at the back, and go.  check back of dryer every size for variance. big runs, use a full time catcher.

back up plan discussed with client if an unacceptable hue change occurs.

I ran across this at a show. It is incomplete, since there are new colors.  We like Gildans for discharge, but there are MANY other that do work.

I just turn a shirt partially inside out to expose a seam where the fabric is doubled and swab a spot with a Q-tip and run it through the dryer.  It's a little "ghetto" but it works okay, with a little practice

That chart is pretty accurate, and when we've had differences from it, its usually on the side of discharging better than stated.

Some blends will work too, but the Cardinal Rule is to test first, before committing 100% to a discharge a job. And your customer needs to be prepared to accept some variation between sizes.

We keep a bunch of manual screens with different mesh count and image them with test circles. The ink dept has a stripped down manual. We find this to be more accurate and use the circles for swatch books. Cure with an industrial hair dryer
