this is why screen printing SUCKS
« on: October 24, 2012, 07:00:22 AM »

This is an actual e-mail exactly as received......i am too old for this schiznit ::)

Hi Mike - I am starting a new business and want to start by wearing a shirt as a kind of uniform.
I have attached the business car that has the logo. I want the name of the business small on front in upper right area and the dragonfly logo large across the back. I love my dragonfly, but blown up he looks very... buggy. lol! Any chance you can erase away some of the arms and shrink head abit.  Let me know if you can work with the art attached.  I'm thinking a white shirt, v neck, 3 quarter length sleeves and of a nicer quality. I'm only ordering 3 - 5. You'll let me know if there is some big price difference. Call anytime 406-xxxx.
Thanks

This is what 90% of the calls/e-mails I get are asking for. I think it's time for me to shift my focus to DTG and Dye Sub. Might get into the cut & sew business. I'm getting fed up with the margins in screen printing. I reformatted my pricing to be extremely competitive and still get undercut/

I think you're going to need a hefty deposit just for the art time. Damn, people are so ....

Like i said I am too old for this schiznit...i refferred her to www.customink.com.
on a rough cut quote Custom ink showed $45.00 ea shirt minimum of 6 for a Bella brand...reality is on the way baby!!!!!!!
I know she she wants to pay around $16.00 per shirt, printed folded boxed in a paper wrapped set. By the way she is going to want a fashion ladies tee that will cost me more than she wants to pay for the shirt finished printed and will expect me to show here catalog selections for her review.
FRACK THAT imagine a BIG middle finger icon here

There is a local competitor that has been doing printing for a few more years than me and he has a $250.00 min charge. Thought he was crazy at first but now I get it.
Since I don't get enough call for DTG the $250.00 min chg gets used on this type of order. Usually I point them towards Staple to get a colour iron on. :)

I would grey scale and 1/2 tone it. 1 color print only for so few shirts.

Moose -title should read "This is why PEOPLE suck"

flip side of the coin, she hasn't a CLUE what it takes to make a shirt, and we can't really expect them to. So it's our job to explain it as best we can and without going into detail. I usually use the reference of making cakes. I say, make me one cupcake, I don't want a whole cake -just one cupcake. You have to go through the same steps to produce that as you would a whole, usually they get it right away. . . the people that still don't understand, I would rather not work with because chances are, they will be the ones to complain or have a check bounce.
...keep doing what you're doing, you'll only get what you've got...

not as bad but here's mine

I worked with you on the Cutting for a CURE tshirts. I had a quick question. Do you only produce tshirts in mass quantities or would you produce one? I am going away on my honeymoon in two weeks and really want a tshirt that says "Bride" or "Mrs" on it. I wasn't sure if this is something you (a) already produce or (b) could even produce given the short timeline and the fact that I only need one. I was thinking about getting one for my hubs, too, that says "Mr". Is this doable or not so much?

Thanks so much for your time :)
Have a great day!

Stealing my line eeehhhh.....lol. When the cupcake analogy does not work a simple trip to the back to see the process usually opens their eyes. If that does not, I kindly guide them towards the door and thank them for their time. When it sinks in or they hear it from another printer I usually see them again.
