Someone broke into my connex box!
« on: October 11, 2012, 06:39:37 PM »
F'ing awesome eh?

So I go around to show my baby the cows so she'll stop crawling all over the wife so she can get some work done and I see my box is open (but doors pushed closed).

I go ask the guys if they were in there today they say no and that they are SURE the locked it back last.  So confused I got look and the key is put up so I asked them about it (we normally leave the key in the lock while we have it open).

We go look again and I noticed the busted the latch... yay!

Oddly they didn't take my spare WF-1100 that is sitting right in the door way but they looked at it I think (box is open to it, it was sealed).  Looks like they took a bunch of crap computer parts... the ones that everyone said I should just throw away.  Didn't take some big a$$ 60' 8 gauge 4 conductor wire sitting in there (that was easy money), didn't take my 3com layer 3 managed switch that was sitting in there.  I'm guessing they loaded up what they could starting in the back at the top and then maybe was going to come back (another day or they chickened out).

Only thing of real value I can see that they got is my Werner "flexo" ladder that folds up.

I just have no idea how I am going to secure this thing now... one latch still works but so what, they broke the other one already.

Most really secure containers that I have seen had a heavy steel cove/box covering the hasp and padlock and making it close to impossible to get bolt cutters in there.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Booby trap brother obey trap!

A life long friend of mine who is an electrical engineer designed an alarm system for his ware house that has ear drum shattering sirens. Initially it is a standard alarm to first scare away but if you enter the unit it will then sound the sirens that will in reality damage the eardrums.

Probably illegal as hell but if you knew the equipment and value stored you would under stand.

We use to take 3/4" plate and cut two pad eyes that a 1-1/2" pipe would slide through. Weld the pad eyes to the container. Take a section of 1-1/2" pipe, weld a plate on one end drill a hole the other to take a pad lock. Slide the pipe through the two eyes across the doors and lock. We also would bulid a box out of 1/4" plate to cover the lock, just big enough to unlock and get the lock off. On some we would weld the doors shut an put a standard 36" door in the side with normal door konb and dead bolt.

My brother came up with a good idea.

A receiver type of "tube" like on a trailer hitch, hardened steel.  Put on a hinge type of system with some C channel that has an "eye" through it all.  Then slide in the trailer hitch receiver locks like you have on the back of your truck.

Not much is going to cut through that, certainly not the "simple" bolt cutters they used to cut the mechanism on the box I have now.

I'll post a pic of it all tomorrow so you can understand the issue... no place for a box to cover the lock where it is now.  I'll have to fabricate something.
