My first discharge underbase WOW
« on: September 28, 2012, 06:09:26 PM »
So I finally did a discharge underbase. They were black gildan 2000’s so I knew they would discharge well. I did 80 base and 20 white with 6 percent activator. I did two passes of the discharge and then printed 3 colors on top with no flash. I was a little worried about printing these. They came out great. I haven’t washed them yet to test but I am a little scared about the outcome. I printed the plastisol on top really thin so I am not sure if they will wash well. The colors were also based back with softhand base.

Looks great!  Except one thing,  It's got a little weave pattern in your garment. They will deduct points for that for sure.  :)   Kidding of course.

They were all 156. Printed the top color hard to make sure the color covered the discharge in the weave.

Has anyone tried a 230 using that discharge base and hitting it twice with good results?  I need to get this done via high mesh.

Glad to here it.   I have had good success with 230 and one hit ( with solid art).  A double hit would be even better I assume.  I neglected to point out that I am specifically referring to Halftone use when I asked about 230's and discharge underbase.   Anyone satisfied with that 2nd hit ( with halftones in it on a 230 mesh or even higher?   Dot gain would be an issue.

This job was for 50 black gildans. It wasn't set up for waterbase discharge. At the last minute I decided to do the DC underbase. I use aquasol HV emulsion normally so I just used some CCI hardener on the screen. Aquasol HV could handle 50 shirts with out hardener but better safe  then sorry. The colors was just my normal plastisol inks. They are union ultrasoft or maxopake based down. The underbase was cci base and white with 6 percent activator.

You sure you used Union Ultrasoft on Discharge????????

I've been told by Joe Catazone (Union Inks) you cannot and one of my efforts using Ultrasoft was atrocious.

Maxopake, yes.  Just askin.

That's interesting. The teal and blue is ultrasoft and the yellow was a maxopake. I did the wash test about an hour ago and they look great. I did base the inks back with softhand. Not sure why union would say they don't work. Maybe its just some colors. I have heard some union reds will change to orange when used with plasticharge. Maybe a union guy can chime in on why it shouldn't of worked.
