Hello Cleveland
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:03:33 AM »
So, are the bells ringing and crowds singing "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead"?

The scourge of Cleveland, Art Modell is finally dead, and one can only hope that his death was drawn out and painful.

Wow, I would hardly ever wish somebody's death be drawn out and painful, let alone celebrate it, unless it was a truly evil person, not somebody that just pissed people off.

but Frog....it's just football.....a game.....i'm a fan too.....life is too short to be bitter....especially over a professional sport like the NFL.....

,,,i know a lot of Buffalo fans that HATE the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys....cause of the Superbowl losses......heck...Buffalo fans must HATE every team by now.

Whatever Modell did or didn't do...in the end he couldn't take the money with him.

Even without lol's and smilies, do you guys really take a sports related rant seriously? Do you really think that I have dwelt on this since the big move? It's not like I got a "Kill Art" tattoo. (and I am even having my Cheney with devil horns removed)
When the Browns left, I just concentrated more on the Raiders and Cal, and lamented the loss of the team that for years, got the worst breaks and provided the most bang for the buck without going all the way.

On the other hand, I do hate. I hate that big money trumps people, in all aspects of "This American Life" and will fight to my last day to change that if possible.

Well...my fav team the NY Giants moved to Jesrey....but I still root for them.....even through a few Super Bowls and a couple championships.....I'm happy.

Big money , big shmoney....it don't trump me....I make my own choices and don't give a crap about what the other guy has or does not have.

The "Man" or the "Rich" don't have power over me....i have liberty to do as i please.....i don't see how it trumps peoples lives....we all make or own choices

All things considered we got it pretty stinkin good in the good ol' USA

Any more discussion in this direction will need to continue in the cage ( which I don't believe you have chosen to opt-in yet, and frankly, even I usually avoid), but suffice it to say that I believe that your statement is indicative of exactly the mind-set that folks like David and Charles Koch like to see.  ;D

btw, if you want to wax politically or otherwise controversially, let me know, and I can add you to the opt-in Controversy Cage. Over there, though civility is still encouraged, almost no holds are barred,  while we try to keep it pretty mellow over the rest of the forum.

not a football fan, and was not even in town when it happened (in the Navy), but holly crap was that a blow to the city! Financially it was huge, psychologically it was even worse.

While not privy to the financial reasoning for the move, at some point one has to ask themselves how much more money they need and what is the action going to do to millions of ppl. If it was a matter of survival, it is hard to blame the guy. If he just wanted a little more money (depending on what little more is) it would be hard to justify.

The general opinion by the masses (which might not really know the whole story) is that he is a scumbag!

Just like Andy, I don't really think many wished him a long painful death, but am pretty sure he would not get much sympathy if that was the case. . .

No, my statement about hating how big money seems to rank over humanity stands, and is something I can live with.
I, however, did already try to point out that my initial rant was, indeed, mere sports hyperbole.
