Anyone use the Epson 4900? Is it good?
« on: August 31, 2012, 01:23:32 PM »
Hey guys,
Just wondering what you use for printing films.  I've been using the Epson 1400 for a few yrs.  2nd one just died, bought a Epson 1430 for cheap.  Now thinking about going big with an Epson 4900 but the price is much greater then the little 1400.  Shipping the thing to Hawaii is like $500+ bones!!!!  I don't need anything bigger then a 17" wide format printer.  Any thoughts?

My customers who use the 4900 seem to have no complaints.

Just ordered one!  Do you use Blackmax & Accurip with it?
What settings do you use?
I've been the 1400's for a few years now, time to step it up!!!
Thanks!

blackmaxx will not work on the 4900 YET,  We use Wasatch rip.  Get carts from inkjetcarts.us  I would recommend NOT INSTALLING THE EPSON CARTRIDGES THAT COME WITH IT!   THEY COST A FORTUNE AND IF YOU CHANGE TO BLACK YOU HAVE TO CLEAN ALL THE HEADS.  Order the all black system and thank yourself real soon.  It costs $460 for the all black system, but you make up for it SUPER FAST.  Then you buy the bulk black for $80 a liter.  If you use the Epson ink, its $1100 everytime you change them.  Just my 2 cents.

Just bought it from ryonet fellas. They have a vid on their site talking about how blackmax works with the 4900. Yeah won't be putting the epson cartridges in it for sure. I'll be looking into the carts from inkjetcarts.us after Blackmanx runs out. Thanks for the info!!!

How do you like the Wasatch rip? I'm about to get a new rip and had a look at the Wasatch as it offers better options then AccuRip, for example PSS halftoning.

Been using it for 15 years, so its the only RIP i know.  I imagine others are good, but wasatch cost more than the rest for whatever reason?

accurip added it recently, it previously did not work.  I knew it was coming though.
