Need a clarification please
« on: August 08, 2012, 01:54:26 PM »
I normally print spot color. Once in a while I will get something that has a single color with half tones.  No problems so far.  Now I get this design and I don't really know what to do.  I am using Corel X6 with Accurip, and when I go to print I get "two or more color separations will print at the same screen angle".  My settings are at 22.5degree elliptical 45lpi.  Any suggestions, this is where things get fuzzy for me.

Yellow/Lime, Red halftones and black.

I would overprint red over yellow (to get flames) and then finish up with black.

Should be easy ???

The message can be ignored it doesnt apply to what we do anyways.

That image below I would print the yellow solid no halftoning and the red halftoned wet on wet yellow, it will mix quite nicely and give you some of the orange look.

Thanks, I appreciate the input.  I was thinking about printing the yellow solid then half tone the red.  I just wasn't sure about the message.  Again, thanks everyone for the input.

here's another quick thought . . .

Figure out what the smallest dot is you can hold (for example 8%) and use that as the starting point for your red (go from 8% to 100%). This way you will not have a sharp line for the transition from no red to where it starts printing.

I'm glad you posted this as I have also wondered how exactly to print something like this.  I haven't had a job come up yet but I know it will.

So the yellow won't contaminate the red ink/screen?  Or it wont' really matter much anyway?

If the latter is the case here then when the contamination (assuming it is a potential) is a concern, then what do you do?  If this is too far off topic than I apologize and Andy you can split it.

very short answer is: "Don't worry about contamination!"

long answer is very, very long . . .  ;D

So when this job is done, do you just trash the red ink or do you card it back into the red container?

for the most part you will not see any contamination . . . That's why I said no to worry about it.

The contamination will be so neglible it won't matter, reclaim the ink afterwards and if there is any tint in the red mix it all back up bit I bet there will be none.

Obviously printing any color over a wet white might show more contamination but I have printed on wet whites fine in the past.

If a long auto run simply adding fesh red in the screen keeps anything from getting out of control.

contamination is all about print quantity and mesh counts

couple hundred or so you should be just fine...

10k shirts like we did a month ago, every 2k we took out ink, put it in separate containers and labeled it "'custom' chrome yellow".  Yellow was printed after red in the design.  Added fresh yellow to keep it looking consistent.
