4880 waste/maintenence tank near full warning
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:45:06 PM »
getting the "maintenence tank near full" warning on my 4880..would be the first time i've done anything with it and i've read that you can just do some DIY thing with it instead of buying a new tank?  I cant recall where i saw it...anyone know the details? probably need to do it before next week.

thanks!

there is a way to reset it.  I don't have a manual for one of those.  Chances are you are fine to reset it once.  Do it twice and you will have a mess on your hands.

Do you have a resetter? If not buy one when they off they aren't full by any means in my cases. I have 4880 and 4800.

Its on the back of the tray. I always wipe mine out real good too. These things can be a pain if they are not kept somewhat clean and will give false readings.

You can also buy the kit from Ryonet that comes with replacement sponges as well as a resetter.  Here is the link

Pull the tank out, open it up and dump the old ink and media.  You can actually rinse the ink out of the media, dry it and put it back in (takes forever to dry, fyi) or you can fill with some absorbent material.  Use your chip resetter to reset it and put it back in.

These tanks do not actually do anything but catch waste ink.  They don't weigh it and let you know when it's full or anything like that, epson has a counter system that sounds the alarm after x prints on the machine or whatever.  And there's no need whatsoever to purchase a new one when this happens so long as you clean or replace the media, it's just a wasteful trick to get you to by more OEM stuff from them.

Just like they said pull out tank look at side reset the tank put back in. I can get 6 months longer or more depending on how much printing and cleaning heads.

I downloaded a free "resetter" from Epson's website for the waste tank issue, check there...

Check ebay.  They have resetters there for under $9.  They come from china so they take about a week to get to you.

Then take out your maintenance tank and replace the sponge with some diapers, tampons, or other absorbent material.  Reset it with the chip resetter and pop it back in. Good as new!  Just be sure to check it on your own every so often, as a overflow of ink might happen and spill in your machine- and those can be a pain to clean up.
