Epson 3000 and 64 bit?

My question is will my Epson 3000 work with a 64 bit computer I am in the process of   an up-grade. I am currently using what come with the printer Fast Rip 9.0. Thanks for any and all input.

The 64 bit driver for the Epson 3000 is included in Windows 7.

However, I think once you upgrade you may have issues with compatibility with Fastrip. I would have to ask - why upgrade the OS? It's often better to buy a new machine and leave older drivers and RIP software on your old one. The new souped up machine runs the new graphics software, (Photoshop, Corel, etc) and the old machine handles the legacy drivers and software like RIP programs.

I thought about leaving the old one but that really takes away space (needed). I am doing all the research I can do before I get the new computer trying to head off any problems I may occur.

You maybe Ok if you run Win 7 pro or higher and use the open in Xp mode. Maybe.

Your problems may be two-fold:

No direct driver support of a legacy printer from Epson. They are terrible at updating drivers for Win 7. You can use the stock Windows driver but there will not be any "current" drivers from Epson for that printer. (same thing for many of their older models like the 7600 and 9600 to name a couple.)

Fast Rip - good luck getting any support on this at all.


Keep the old machine, trust me. There is always a place to stash one under a desk. Set it up, plug it into a router, share the 3000 on the network and point your new machine to the 3000. Once it's set up you can even turn off or unplug a monitor and leave the old PC running to accept printer jobs.

It's simple really - it works so keep it. Same reason you keep using the 3000.

After some research I have discovered that Cadlink has taken over the FastRip line and offer a program upgrade for $195. Computer should be ready today so I will keep everyone updated on how it goes. Here is what Cadlink sent me on an email...

Hi Scott - You'll need to upgrade. To try the latest version, you can download it here http://www.cadlink.com/products/filmMaker/fm_trial.php.
 
When you're ready to do the upgrade (you'll use the dongle you have now) go to http://garmentdecoratingsupply.com/FilmMaker-DTP-Upgrade-From-FastRIP-FMDTPUPG.htm. The upgrade is $195.00 but the trial version is fully functional and will get you started.

This may help somebody else with the same situation in the future.

I would also get a KVM switch for it.  That is what we do with the server here.  No need for an extra work station, just run a monitor cable from the server to the KVM and bam!  Makes life easy.

Also, I was running a 3000 from win 7 x64, I wouldn't recommend it.  It worked, but you lose the PS drivers and it's harder to print films.  Cadlink should have it solved with the update, you will need to print through a RIP to make it work.  So our 3000 is on the server because x64 won't recognize the dongle, but server 2003 does.

Makes life easy too...the server is much less prone to "user errors."

I too just upgraded from an old xp system to a win 7 64bit.  I did not have any issues with my epson but mine is a r1800.  but i did have the fat rip 9 or 8 and it would not load at all never got it working.  I have always went to t biz network for help even though they do not support it but I tried the t rip upgrade for those which have had a fast rip.  I downloaded the new version for a trial and never got it working.  I ended up with accurip which cost me a little more than what I had wanted to spend but I am glad I did.  accu rip is so much easier than fast rip or t rip.  So if you cannot get the old rip to work just go with accu rip and never look back.

i am not sure, I think it's a 64 problem.  a rip will solve your issues though...and you should be using one anyway.

i would say a 64 issue.  but i cannot confirm that as i do not have a win 7 with 32 bit.   you need a 64 so you can use more ram.

I do have a rip ( Fast Rip 9.0) know mk on my XP, just concerned about the compatability of 64 with the FastRip and or the Epson 3000. I do understand about the 64 vs 32 but the 64 has only been out a few years and most of the older printers and such still require 32. It will be an upgrade with the 32bit with the computer I am getting, I just have to determine which one will be the most cost effective. I really like the idea that mk had with the switch and hold on to the xp. I do know the new X6 does have a 64bit series. Decisions decisions decisions........makes my head hurt
