Quick Discharge Substrate ?
« on: June 29, 2012, 03:14:48 PM »
I heard Charcoal colors are star discharge Ts but are these three legit?:

Canvas 3001

Hanes 4980

Gildan 64000

Got a bigger order for a light powder blue on charcoal color and would love to run the Texcharge.  Only asking because it's a pretty quick turn job and I don't have time to order in inks, r&d, order Ts, etc.  It would sure beat p/f/p on 535 pcs on a manual press though!  Thanks in advance and Happy Gatdayum Friday!  whoo!

I am yet to run into a charcoal that isnt awesome. if i was going to do it on either of the 3.. prob the 4980 because of the weight. the canvas can be a little light and shear sometimes.

Ahh, Canvas was chosen of course!  Thank you Pat.  I'll keep an eye on ink saturation/penetration.

Follow up discharge newbie ?:

Art is very simple and blocky without any fine lines so I am sizing up between a 110/71 and a 135/48.  Yes, we could use 150/48 but I'd like to save some wrists on a long run on the manual with a disc ink that is primarily tinting White so I'm going for larger openings  as well as overall open area here.  The 110 we have at 34 n/cm and the 135 at a lowly 24.  110 has larger openings/smaller overall open area than 135 which is the opposite.  110 will easily hold the art, it could go on a 90/71 or even lower but I'm sure that would soak through the shirt.   Suggestions?

Hey Chris,
Damn, I was going to say push for the Gildan. Nothing against Canvas as we print a lot of them for sure but over the past 3 or 4 years we have yet to have one discharge problem with Gildans where with Canvas several situations pop up in my mind. Canvas has neat hipster shirts for sure and print fine but with discharge I can almost guarantee with the 500+ shirts you have you are going to see a radical difference in ink color (not to mention shirt color and cut) from size to size. Not trying to scare you and I hope I am wrong. But I would put what you describe on our auto on a 156 and manual 110 to not kill yourself. But I do not recommend going for the soak through!

yea canvas wont be to bad. like brandon said you will see the difference in weight cut etc. but I dont think you will have any issues with the discharge color shifting.. charcoal is the best. I always benchmark my shirts with charcoal because they are just the best. it it was me printing manuel i would go for the 135.. but 110 will be fine to. have fun man!

I posted this on another thread. This is discharge base on a charcoal with plastisol top colors. All 230 rollers.

Hey Chris,
How did this order go?

Hasn't gone yet!  We're still waiting on shirts and it's scheduled for next Monday.  I'll let ya know though.

Decided to go with 110/71 all around on it.  I find higher tension to help with consistency over long runs on a manual.

JBLUE - why the disc base and plastisols on top instead of Red and Yellow discharge?  Because you needed that bright red?

Its called stupid customers that wont listen. They were dead set on plastisol but did not want to have a big heavy patch on their back. The hand on these is a lot softer than if it were run with a plastisol base.

JBLUE- when running the discharge base with plastisol on top, are you flashing the base or just running the plastisol wet on wet over it?

You dont have to flash it if you do not want to but we did just until the edges started to show some discharge. Do to the length of the print it was just enough to minimize any build up on the screen right after the base any ways. It was done on a single pass with a 230 for the base.
