Quick CS6 update
« on: June 29, 2012, 10:32:17 AM »
a quick status update:

there are issues with fill and strokes that the CS6 is not handling right for us. There are workarounds to get it right, but it is definitely an error (at least on my system).

major (I should say HUGE) improvement is the handling of the raster to vector conversion. It offers an intelligent line straightening so what would normally be converted as a jaggy or slightly curved line is now straight. It makes the conversion a quick click of the button in about 90% of the cases! It seems to handle fonts much better. This is not obvious right away, but after spending some time using there is no question.

It does seem to run slightly faster in native 64bit and the small delays that were there before are now shorter, but we are talking fractions of a second. The difference is barely visible, but there is enough to notice.

It has been pretty stable. I had few crashes (maybe two per month), but nothing beyond acceptable. It is possible some of it was caused by issues not related to the suite.

Photoshop now has autosave feature which would be very nice for many here, but since 90% of our work is done in illustrator (which does not have the autosave, go figure!) it is not that big of a deal (so far).

The dark user interface takes some getting used to and I don't care for it too much. I am using something a little darker than before, but still a med gray shade.

Buttons are not as easy to read as the old ones, but one forgets and moves on pretty quickly. Not a deal breaker there.

not much else to report

Does the PS auto save include saving the SPOT channels automatically?  If not,  IT SHOULD!

it should save the file you are working in the background without overwriting the actual file name. Then if it crashes it should ask if you'd like to restore. I don't know this for a fact, but that is how the auto save features normally work.
