Anatol Stratus blowing air lines
« on: May 29, 2012, 10:05:00 AM »
3rd one in a week! Never seen anything like it. Bought a bunch of extra line and connectors locally. Seems like every other day a different line breaks. Anyone else experience this?

I have never heard of a press doing this period.  I wonder if they got faulty lines or if they were damaged somehow.

How high is the pressure to the machine?

I would go ahead and replace all of them.

Looks like they just wear out. One of them cracked the others simply sheared in two. These are the 1/8" lines BTW. I run two shifts so they run pretty hard. Just looks like the plastic just gets brittle over time. Replacing all the lines would be a HUGE task.

replace them all and be done with it.  the air lines on our thunder are of a sub commercial grade and I don't expect them to last long at all at any pressure, assuming they install the same stuff on autos.

when you replace, check the routing path for burrs, sharp unfinished edges, unintelligent routing, etc.

I have never blown a line on our Gauntlet.  It's a 1999, time ages more than use in a lot of cases.

I would not be surprised at all that the lines themselves are just not made as well as older ones.
What with Chinese price point products becoming the norm, you mat be suffering from a similar problem that plagued the mid to late sixties Jaguars, and damaged their reputation with many Americans: sub-par components from outside manufacturers.

Here in the Bay Area, we are facing the real fear of crossing a new Bay Bridge made with Chinese steel.

Replacing all the lines (there are 64) would require taking all the heads apart and would be extremely time consuming and of course we're slammed. Yeah never had this issue with M&Rs and many of those had millions of impressions.

Jaguar stayed crappy through the 90's too.  And Range/Land Rover never stopped being crappy.

I bet you could fish the lines through.  Do 1 head at a time between shifts, or pick a head that won't get used in case you can't get it back together.

Tony, we run a 2007 Stratus as well and are in the same boat.  I replace lines and fittings monthly, and keep theese spare parts in stock.  Just goes with running an Anatol I guess.

Darryl, I've replaced our oil/air regulator 4 times.  Oiler always dumped WAY TOO MUCH oil in the air lines.  Now we just add oil once a month manually to keep it lubed.

Not a big fan of their "Tech Support" either. They always have to get back to you.

Our old centurian had a few miles of air lines and there was always a leak somewhere that I was chasing down and replacing hose.  It was 20 years old though and I know some of the air lines were original.  They just eventually "dry-rotted" and would become brittle then crack.  Most of the time it was a small leak before it really blew so I had time to fix it before something wouldn't work.  I haven't had to fix an air leak in 3 years this month, knock on wood!!!

That is apparently what is happening here, albeit prematurely as the press is only 4 ys old
