Removing Vinyl
« on: May 01, 2012, 04:24:12 PM »
What is the process for removing vinyl from a t-shirt. I have a small slit in a letter that could be salvaged if I could pull off the letter.

Do you just rub it on or spray it on?

Get some of Gilligan's Methylene Chloride, or Acetone, or what I use, Spotting Fluid. I spray or dab.
Interestingly, depending on the particular material, some do well from the front, some from the back.

It's not unusual to get a bit of a ghost, but that is not an issue when replacing with the same letter or shape.
Otherwise, I find that rubbing briskly with a clean rag dampened with the solvent helps.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Ive shoot from the back side with my spot remover gun let it sit a minute and they usually will start to peel off, you will be left with some glue residue but it can be less noticiable if you heat press it again (once the spot remover is dry) . Usually by the time you iron the new name or number over top it is hard to see.
