4 Color Process on Darks? 2/19
« on: February 19, 2013, 11:00:51 AM »
Hi Everyone..

400 pieces, Navy G2000
9" x 11"

Priced out a contract DTG print run (Kornit) and it is way top heavy in price.
My customer would shoot down the cost. DTG not an option.

Take a peek at the [attached] image. This type of print is outside
of the scope of our ability. We have the presses to run this, but we don't know how.

Assuming this job came thru your doors, how would you approach it?
Trying to wrap my head around how this gets printed. What say you?

Thanks.  John

Agreed......I'd price it as 6 colors sim process at first blush. Don't recommend UBng the background. The sim seps will give more color control. If it were sim proc DC than that plate needs to be printed next to last in seqquence. 3rd option DCUB

sim process, send seps to Dan.
guessing here, underbase, hiwhite, gold, red, blue and black. So it would work with 6 colors, would benefit from another blue/gray.
Lotsa fine lines in the building, you'll need a tight registration.
We would run it at 55lpi. 45 might work if you can not hold 55, but there is a lot of detail. My guess is it would have to be manipulated a little during the separation to thicken the lines.
230 underbase, 305 top colors.
Due to navy background, the whole print will have a very slight bluish tone, but that's OK as it seems to be there already.

I can help you out if you decide to print or we can print it for you.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

send the whole thing to Pierre, let him run the job, handle seps with Dan... then buy the films off of him so you can play around and try to duplicate his masterpiece...that's what I would do anyway. you won't make as much coin but for sending an e-mail - I'm sure you'll do alright.

What Tony said.

How's your dot situation? If you are confident at 55lpi and holding good tonal range then go for it.  I would send this to Dan and run it at 55-60lpi on 330s, all DC, DC ub + plastisol might give easy and really nice results but I couldn't say, haven't gotten into that yet.
