I do it cheated up a little from centered on the leg. Works out to about the same as sweetts. Sleeves I center.
My screens limit me to 13" on sleeves or legs.

As for how it reads, I do them the same as sleeves; right side top to bottom. left side bottom to top.
My reasoning on sleeves has alwasy been that one has their arms out in front way more than sticking backwards, and when they are out in front the text reads correctly from the side.
Stack the letters vertically, and you avoid the argument, but some fonts work better than others, and besides, in the end, it's up to your client. You just often need to give them your professional advice.

btw, when this came up in our last hang out, feathers flew and a debate ensued!
At any rate, that's my story, and my position, my orientation, and I'm sticking to it.

Yeah they don't want the letters stacked like we suggested that's why the question. Its going on the left leg on the side. Its for a karate team so if they kick it will be able to be read. I printed it out on a piece of paper and took pics of it both ways to let the customer decide.

I used to do a lot of "SpiritWear" for Boxercraft on patterned flannel pajama style pants that are all the rage with the kids. 5"x 20" had special boards made

Not for an auto, but I used to have special screens, 8x30 or so. The old Hopkins didn't like oversized screens without a lot of bungee cord type modifications. Back then, The frames were wood, and the better ones were quite heavy, but these, with their greatly reduced width, worked like a breeze.
I still have my 6" coater.

5" x 20"  Max.  A little longer is possible without a flash, but 20" is the longest we can flash.
If it's so easy, you do it.
