You can not make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t.

One of my favorite sayings. That doesn't keep customers from asking to do it anyway...

Did people miss the part where I said I cannot read the text? How do I recreate if I cannot even see it?

Second they just about cry for mercy when you mention more cost then they accuse you of ripping them off because they are convinced they gave usable art.

oh well, I guess you need to just give up and cant do the order. ;)

Can you output one to paper to show them what it will look like? Get them to sign off on the legibility (including any further deterioration that may occur by screen printing).

The final step (and insult) will be to have them sign a promise to not disclose the name of your shop to any one who sees the shirt.

That tactic has actually been successful with me to (good naturedly) make the point that the art is sub standard, not worthy of their cause, and they usually come around.

Go over this guy's head and show them what you have.  Explain to them he said he pulled it from the internet and that just doesn't work.  Explain the situation to the right people and you might be done with this.

Great thread, sorry for the grief that created it.
 Good responses though.

We've all been, and will all continue to find ourselves once again, dealing with it.

Thankfully we have a support group, haha.
( that and beer. )

What I would suggest, as some have, is just recreate the splash art and the cross.
Make it look presentable, and close to print ready ( not a big deal ).
Then throw it back in their court and explain you need them to pick a font,
and supply you with said font, if you don't have it,
and text that you will not have to edit ( as in spellcheck and such ).

Here's the trick about text: tell them to copy/paste it into the email.
You have a copy, they have a copy, and it's not program dependant.
Laying text isn't that big of a deal, even if it's a funky layout,
as long as they sign off on what they want said..cause that's where folks can be dicks.

It's Friday, tempers can flare after a week of this shtuff. ( I should know, haha )
We'll be doing it again Monday.
The Kinks - Do it again

Cheers.

That is the easiest way is to have them email the text and copy and paste it.  Sometimes that can go wrong though, but they can proofread it.

I deal with this stuff a lot.  With t-quoter I bill it into the print and roll...usually.  Other times I tell them that I have to bill them for it...especially if it's after I quoted them already.

Just a thought--The possibility exists for you to become a hero to a bunch of kids and their families, who have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something that will matter, if you will...for eternity. (I assumed they are kids, but you didn't say. Could be adults, but the same idea applies.) You and the "artist" and surely his supervisor need a "sit down."

Since this thread seems Scripture friendly, its my turn: "A kind word turns away wrath..." Prov 15:1  We've got a gal up front that can make almost any customer feel like they are welcomed to our shop, with kind, friendly words. She is so valuable! She makes even our problem customers feel like she's glad to see them.

Cooler heads always prevail, and a meeting with the principals could take, what... 30 minutes, tops?  We deal with this stuff all the time, and you're right of course. It can be a real pain.  But a small part of what we do at least, is educate our customers.

My advice to you is certainly something you already know, but it doesn't hurt all of us and our employees to hear again and again. Swallow real hard, and take those lemons and go make some lemonade. Earn yourself a loyal, more educated customer who "SIGNS OFF" IN PERSON. Then he'll give you a good word down the road, to his youth pastor friends in town.

Man I hate that my post sounded so preachy. NOT my intention, OKAY? You've probably already done all this stuff.... I'm just typing to help brainwash myself.

A nice gesture Dan, but without some education, that's probably what happened last time, and why they feel that their art is sufficient. If I am reading correctly though, you are willing to contact the client directly and provide both education and the service. Good deal! This may save the next printers down the line some aggravation as well.

Correct.  I will work out the bugs for both the customer and the printer.

Sure wish people would read what I have written.

I will say it again i asked for the text in a format I can use ie emAil word whatever. What I received was them second jpeg which clearly cannot be read.

Not sure where everyone is missing that very important part of the situation?

No I will not print it if it cannot be legible not happening.

Dan thank you but I have no issue recreating art I do it daily and quite, possibly do it better than you, this has nothing to do with religion or being impartial. Just because this is for a mission, trip does not give this one dude a  free pass to be an ignorant pompous arrogant holier than thow fool.

Now for the update someone in their group finally got word and was able to provide me with what the text in the scripture is perfectly laid out in word all I had to do was cut and paste. He also informed me the idiot I was working with is a fool and spent a lot of effort talking bad about me and our company instead of solving the problem.

I have no problem trying to help people out when deserved, this guy was not deserving he ignored my issues acted like we were trying to screw them and talked bull behind our backs.

You know how to get an idiot to show themselves?  You put one in the room with them and a they come right out of hiding to out do the other.

Just say'n.

What's the matter Dan did I insult your ego? I know it's hard to imagine some one could as good or dare I say better than you but insulting them for it? Not cool just saying.
