Got this order for a mission team going to Honduras, they want purple tee's white print. They send in their ummmm Graphic designer with the art work. Right off the bat i knew this was going to be hell. He shows up with a thumb drive and a multi gig file wow, I try to open in all three programs, adobe and corel no dice. I tell him please on your rig open up export a jpeg so I can atleast see what the art is. He also explained the art is multi color on white, OK I say then take the time use a purple back ground and change all the art to white in a way that looks good on the purple BG. He says well I do not know how to do that (huge red flag). OK I say then please send the Jpeg to start. Below is the jpeg as you can see it has nasty text in spanish and a crazy font.



I reply ok if you can atleast send me the text formatted in a word program or something and please provide all the font names I can recreate very easily. Now below is what he send me OMG a jpeg and so badly distorted to boot, I reply again this is useless and I cannot do anything with any of the images I explain I understand you designed this that means you have to have the text etc and fonts, he replies no sorry I got this off line and it is the best I have. OMFG I want to shoot someone right now.

All one can do is ask for better stuff to work with. If not forthcoming, an estimate to re-create is in order. I believe that all but the biggest jerks out there will agree.
In the end, they do want a decent looking print.

I often ask them for the raw components, and then let me assemble them.

I have sympathy for people that admit they know squat about squat, its when they pass them selves off as designers and photoshoppers when in reality they can barely get the program open that gets my blood pressure up. Even worse they are usually arrogant and want to argue with you when you try to explain how and what to do ugh!

This guy had the balls to reply and ask if i can just type set from the jpeg, ummm first off I cannot even see the letters second it is in Spanish which makes typing even more difficult.

I wont work off a translation because it may be incorrect. I already replied and explained this job will not proceed unless all elements are provided in usable forms. The problem here is people like this always turn their shortcomings into our problem, in the beginning we were told usable ready art work was being provided, key work Ready, they are still under the impression it is usable and act arrogant about the fact we are telling them no its not even remotely ready.

what about just recreating it for the guy and building it into the shirt cost? then your done with it?

x2. Why agonize over a simple piece of crap art. Recreate it and either work it in to the overall cost or bill them a separate art charge. If they're being pluto heads about it, tell 'em it clearly needs a bit of work to make it screen print ready otherwise move on. It's not worth your time.

Did people miss the part where I said I cannot read the text? How do I recreate if I cannot even see it?

Second they just about cry for mercy when you mention more cost then they accuse you of ripping them off because they are convinced they gave usable art.
