Some cool merch
« on: September 27, 2011, 09:48:18 AM »
Since it's been a slow couple of days on the boards thought some of you might want to check out the Cirque du Soliel apparel on their site in the store section.
A lot of cut and sew. Brings me back when I used to do this kind of stuff for the LA fashion district.

We have an order coming up for their "Quidam" design. No details yet, as the marketing company we do them for hasn't sent in much detail yet... There seem to be about a half dozen versions of it.

They aren't that great. I don't get access to a merchandise link when viewed by IPhone.

Those darned French people with the fancy spellings can't even give you a smart phone link.
I think they call that a Faux Pas aka Fo Paw.

I've got a friend that sells shirts at events.  And to be honest, he says some of the worst stuff he sees is at the Cirque du Soliel shows.  Not all of it, but he says last time he worked a show, it looked worse than bootlegged.  Maybe they dropped the other marketing company, but he said it was awful.

I also wish I could remember who had the best.  It's tough to remember, I'll have to ask.

Guess that shows that what you see/hear/read/buy on the internet isn't always rosy as appears. I always apreciated the graphic design anyways. Just an FYI when this was done domestically for the fashion market I can say at least from my experience we excelled at it. Perhaps Rick will remember?

yes I do.. Those days tshirts were the exception. i remember with 6 autos only having one or two people that could load tees. man, all those bundles with bundle tags having to be kept in the same order to keep the integrity so when they went to the sew plants the shades would match from panel to panel.. alot of times we were doing full bleeds on piece goods, the best thing was the margins were good so everyone made money..

Thats right I remember the Chorus Line, XOXO, Aeropostale stuff etc. Yokes/sleeves/fronts backs. Nested tracings for placement. We did several seam to seam 4 color process on a new fabric called Spandex.
Simpler times actually.

I have seen the product sold at Down Town Disney for them and it was very good printing. I admired it myself (for production quality) it was very good. Thats something you don't see in many of the theme park product.  It was about 50/50 chance you would get a crap print off the shelf. People buying Mickey Mouse didn't really notice or care that his face looked sunburnt red with a 5:00 shadow due to dot gain and they used black as a shadow on his face. It always bothered me that the samples were looking great and you'd go through 2-3 revisions to get the print to look right, finally approve it....only to see it look like crap out on the floor.  That was/is common place.  Fortune Fashion was notorious for that but then again, nobody other than me knew enough about printing to know they had those issues. I brought it up a few times but, nobody cared. They printed for the right price and provided approved samples. Thats all that mattered. As long as the buyer did there part, it was all good.

The Cirque du Soliel stuff that I've seen at DTD was/is better than Disney stuff.  Disney's print quality has gone down hill over the last 5-7 years and nobody cares. Much of the larger orders are sent over seas or to South America and none of them produce top quality printing. A couple in Guatemala and one in Honduras are really great printers but China, they don't know quality sim process if it bit them. Disney still buys it from China for the price. To heck with the quality, they got pricing. People still buy China Mickey print even if they are printed bad. I always said, you can do any crappy quality print for Disney and design it in the worst way...and it would be a # one seller.

Well well Dan........when did you work for FF or did you? I was there for a couple of months. Took two times to resign.......they didn't let me the first time. Before that I was across the street doing the belt printing for the Waterparks.

I never worked " for them" but had to work very closely with then for many years. They were Disneys main printer. They bought out Disneys Park Printing. With that, they had to also take on one of Disneys biggest financial blunders of the century in the merchandise division but got a 7 year contract to print for us.  I have tons more to sat, but maybe over a dinner one night at a show.

Offer Ed Hardy and Affliction at your store?
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?
