CMYK adjustments in PS
« on: February 06, 2012, 11:01:52 AM »
Hi there.
Could someone change with me a "starting point" for a cutbacks for CMYK files in PS.
I have finally bought some 305 screens and I wanted to try printing some CMYK before I can tell to customer that I can do it.

I would like to know how you set you curves, and what is a "standard" cutback for a process color. I have searched for some tutorial on Youtube, but basically, most of them are for sep programs, which at the time I do not have in my plans. I would like to try manual adjustments in PS and then converting the channels into bitmap files. I have plans for FilmMaker pretty soon.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Dennis, you need some info. One, what inks are you going to use? You may need the "color numbers" for those to put into Photoshop, as well as setting dot gain, and other issues too involved to start typing here. Having the correct settings will help your image when you convert to CMYK. You must start with an RGB image. It's best that the original file is RGB, but if you only have a CYMK image, then convert to RGB before you start. You may want to check the "other" board a lot of us used, and some still do, and look it up there. There was a guy named Fred (who was banned for a posting faux pas, porn) but who often wrote concise instructions for things like this. In fact, he only did CYMK for his work, or so he said. He also posted a set of Transfer curves which he had thoroughly test FOR HIS SETUP which may give you an idea of what that's all about. Much to learn to do it this way...

These inks that I have are WM Plastics (I got a sample from them).
I was just wondering is someone can give me a ballpark, something to start from. Later, I would adjust for my set up.

I will take a look at the "other" forum.

Thanks Steve.
