need to repair combo infrared/gas dryer -Precision/M&R
« on: March 31, 2025, 09:29:14 PM »
I need help to fix an old 1989 Precision/M&R Combo infrared / gas dryer.  It shuts itself off after several times in the morning.  I need to figure out which parts to replace.
Do you know of anyone who works on these?  Brian Flar of M&R used to diagnose this over the phone, but he retired. Does you know his phone # ?
I have the electrical diagram, and we used to check the fuses, the components of the Protectifier circuitry (ACF flame relay switchs,  flame pak, transformer), thermocouples,  Athena temperature controllers, flame rod, air vents, low gas pressure, high limit, air flow,.....
We would  probe with the multimeter to check the circuits. We would bypass some parts  to see if they were causing the problem.
It is too old for M&R to diagnose or supply parts.
It is a Precision gas fired vortex dryer CDG-20/1+9-476.  This Precision brand was bought by M&R.

Second for Winston.

We had an old American dryer that would do similar. Checked everything in the schematic but no go.
Then I noticed an over-temp resettable fuse in the machine that wasn't in the schematic...

If it works again after a cool down I would look for one of those.

Thank you both for telling me about Winston and about the over temp switch fuse.

Winston will know for sure. Did you get up with him? if not lmk and i'll pm you his info. He has helped us out a ton with ours.

Our precision was getting whacky in the morning until it came up to temp... kept shutting off. The mercoid switch with the long bimetallic strip had been arching / shorting out inside of the housing. Its a rather obscure part but i was able to find NOS on ebay. Really really cool part... and now i have an old mercury switch to make who knows what with. They don't make em like they used ta that's for sure. Maybe ill wire it up to my chicken coop and make and make an anti fox alarm haha!
