Sewing on hem tags. What's the going rate?
« on: February 10, 2025, 01:40:32 PM »
we have a customer interested in having hem tags done. They would provide the tags.
What's the going rate for those services? Many years ago it used to $0.50 each. Is that still the case? What about the neck tags?
thanx,
pj
Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Double that at least, but depends on quantity. Local sew house quoted $1.35 for hem tags sewn at 300 pieces.
I thought it high so we brought it in house (Juki with the computer thing), and in terms of time/labor they weren't too far off haha.
We're in SF Bay Area for reference, and there's quite a few sewing places in the area.

One of our local distributors, Apparel Source, is/was next to a sewing shop and would have your labels sewn in before shipping
blanks to you, super convenient, and even as of 5 years ago I recall pricing being similar to above.

How much quicker is a fancy Juki? We use a Viking sewing machine for this. We mostly do it for 1 big client though at around $.50 each.

The auto back-tack and trims/foot lift make it lightyears faster if you don't have that. But the whole setup makes it so that someone as dumb as me can
sew tags haha. Literally point and click.
