Where To Find Non-Woven Teflon Sheet
« on: May 04, 2011, 09:07:00 PM »
I have a Teflon sheet I occasionally use to heat press a screen print with. It gives a rubber feel to the print and can be used for other effects as well.
The sheet I have is woven and was shipped folded to boot so I always pickup the Teflon sheet texture on the heat pressed screen print.
Is there such a thing as a SMOOTH Teflon sheet that won't transfer it's texture to the print?

50% of the time I'm 100% right.

The one I got from stahls is what I call smooth.

I buy it by the yard and use it for a lot of stuff.

You could try using transfer paper or kraft paper in place of the teflon, don't know if that will give the rubber feel?

I don't know about the "rubber" feel, but Stahls always used to describe their teflon cover sheet as providing a "screen print-like" finish, while Kraft paper was more matte.
I almost always use their kraft paper

How about something like this? Maybe from Bed Bath and Beyond. We use them at home for baking.

Like they say, Silpat...it's not just for cookies anymore.

That look likes it's made to order for our baked goods friend, but it appears to have significant texture, one of the complaints about the teflon.
Also, how thick is it? would it require a boost in temp?

The ones we use are as smooth as a babies butt. I would have to check the thickness. My guess is .040"-.060".

Two other options I'm partial to:
Stahls flexible rubber mats
And my all-time favorite blue texturizing paper

Andy, did I ever send you some? I told you that I finally found it, didn't I?
