So, we were at Walmart yesterday(Jay, don't freak).  While we were there my wife saw the discounted clothes racks.  She took a look and found a shirt with printing on it with wings and stuff.  I think it was an MMA shirt and it was marked $1.  She tossed it in the cart because that was a damn good deal.  While she was looking at other stuff in a different area of the store I decided to check the print, it looked like it had some really nice softhand to the print.  Boy was I wrong.  It felt like sandpaper.  Then when I picked it up to look closer at it the print began to crack.  No flaking or anything it just cracked.  The ink was really hard.  I couldn't believe it.  What kind of ink would do that?

if the garments were printed overseas it could be some of that acrylic solvent ink they use. there are alot of inks used in other countrys we are not familiar with here. it could possibly be just UNDERCURED plastisol printed right here in the states.

This stuff was brittle.  I am trying to think of a comparison that I could use.  Strange stuff.

Speaking of odd inks. At one time, I had been doing some sep work with a company in Honduras. They used a white for the underbase ink that seemed flaky or blotchy once printed. It was semi translucent in some areas of the underbase. Very odd. It was almost like the dry powdered milk you could mix to use as a milk substitute. Yea, it looked like that.  Not sure if anyone knows about the powdered milk. Not sure why I do. LOL.


I seem to remember an ink craking liek that. it became brittle and sort of flaked off. The ink was not a plasticol. I think it was a lacquer ink of some sort.

I've printed Wilflex Brittle Base. It cures to a smooth finish, using thick stencil. Then you crack it after it cools. We sold some, not alot, and not to Wal-Mart!
