When people lie
« on: September 10, 2021, 12:22:26 PM »
People lie all the time. But sometimes its hilarious how stupid they can make themselves look.

I get a call from a woman that is local, she has a cricket machine, says she buys all her transfer film from Michaels, and they ran out of her purple she has been cutting, Wants to buy some purple from us. First off our rolls are twice the width of her machine, second she cannot figure out how much she needs. Then she changes tune and says just cut the designs for me. I tell her I azm far to busy I cannot put time into something like that. Then she sounds sad so i give in and say look I will make the cuts but you have to weed. OK awesome, she says she has been cutting the design on her cricket, I say great send me the design and how many you need. Below is what she sends me. Yes a goddam raster, and she wants 48, full fronts, thats more than I have in stock. I call back and tell her she has not been cutting this design it is a raster, she swears she is cutting them on her cricket. Ok send me the file you are cutting, she said the pic she sent is it. I explain the whole vector raster thing, she says oh sorry just outline it for me and make the cuts. Thats when I said enough is enough and have a nice day. Sick of people trying to take advantage of others. I had many choice words but I am trying to be a more compassionate kind person in this new liberal world we live in.

Perhaps the NFL pays bounties for these cheats. I don't think the civil suit idea will fly.

Sometimes, When we think bad of people and think they lie, we may be mistaken.

For example.  This women doesn’t really know the technical terms or why this does this and that does that but she knows it does it.
The Cricut business is not our world, and screen printing is not hers. So we who don’t use them, don’t really know what those machines take for files.
So I asked my wife (who has a cricut).

So it seems it mostly uses pixel images to cut from. That makes sense as most of these "moms" are familiar with pictures and not graphics programs to create vectors.

And since my wife has been involved in this circuit business, I’ve learned more about SVG's that I never knew.   SVG or Scalable Vector Graphics... even though it says “vector in the name...can be saved as a SVG from Photoshop (pixle art).  But I know they don’t open (as well) or flawlessly like they do if you save a SVG from Illustrator. Who knew?

That's a nice way of saying that the stuff they steal on the internet is usually raster!

I don't know much about that software but maybe it works like the roland software and just does edge detection and so that technically IS what she's cutting from.

She gives it to the software and it sees the edges.

Believe it or not, that is essentially how the Roland DID as well... I don't know if it still works that way but I promptly sold the Roland we bought when I "upgraded" to a Roland from our 15" graphtec... ordered the 24" graphtec after that!

I don’t know anything about these printers but I had always heard good things about the Rolands. But maybe that’s old school now. I’ll look into the Graphtec. I’d start small.  Thanks!

That was why I was so confused by the almighty Roland.

I even contacted the guy that does the Stahl's videos to see if I was missing something.

I wasn't, I couldn't believe it.

Wife said give me my graphtec back and get rid of that thing.

Graphtec just follows your lines from illustrator.

Our first Roland gave us 25 years, next to nothing for maintenance over that time. In fact, if I had computer that could talk to it (none the supposed adapters worked) it would still run, using Sure Cuts a Lot for software. Picked up a GX24 a couple of years ago, and it's been great, just to give another perspective on Roland.

She lied. She called back in a panic. No she did not cut any at all, she never have any purple because Michaels does not sell the qty she would need right off the shelf. 48 full fronts. She literally had till Saturday morning to get the job done, it was for a funeral. Here is the best part her plan was to cut the image I attached then using some kind of transfer printer, print an image that would register over the purple piece, borders, a photo etc. I asked her do you even know if a digital transfer would stick to a piece of vynil? She did not know but thought it would be fine. In other words she get her self in huge trouble and needed rescue. I explained even if you gave me the vector to cut I did not have enough material anyways for 48 full size cuts. I told her to just take it on the chin and inform the customer it is not possible and sorry.

On our Roland set up you have to put the cut line in there. We have both a Roland cutter stand alone and as Print/Cut Roland Pro 4.

Hopefully they changed that archaic system... this was 5+ years ago.

Josh Ellsworth?  I that the name of the guy?  Even confirmed we weren't missing anything.  Bleh!

Graphtec too has been EXTREMELY solid, never had any issues with it.  Their software changes from time to time but the overall process of what you feed it doesn't.  Just the actual pressure/tiling/weeding lines and other finer points have changed in their plug-in.

Basically with the Graphtec it's a plug-in for Illustrator.  You just go "File / Send to Cutting Master" and it launches their software with your cuts all loaded in.  I don't even have to outline fonts if I don't want to.

We've had the printer since 2014, its never been like you described. Unless there was anohter way to use teh software we weren't aware of. In those 7 years we've only had one issue. We had used white ink in the machine to do some reverse printing for stickers, when we stopped doing that our operator put in the cleaning solution, but then let that run out and never told us, it locked the head up in the white section so we had to buy another head when we needed white again. No issue otherwise on the printer.

Their cutters though, not super amazing. The most recent one not bad. The one we had before that we had to send back 3 times cause it was a total turd.
