The best easy lunches
« on: January 13, 2012, 11:58:25 AM »
I am sure i am like a lot of people here, what I eat is either leftovers or something I can make in the microwave or toaster oven.  What are your favorite "make at the office" lunches?

I am trying some new ones from Trader Joes and I have to say, some are awesome!!

I am a big fan of the following:

Pork Masitas (trader joes)
Sausage & Pancakes on a stick (Sam's)
Green Curry Tuna (trader joes) it does need some rice though
Almost any of the PF changs skillet meals

Those are just some of the thing I try and stock here.  What do you guys do?

today? half a grapefruit, 1/2 cup almonds, maybe snack on some cheerios throughout the day. egg whites for breakfast, little basil and cherry tomatoes and asiago cheese, slice of wheat bread  = heaven. . .

lunch is usually a turkey wrap, salad, or some crap like that. . my food selections blow. . . . .I would love a slice of friggen pizza about now. . .

everyone brings in a lunch, the last guy we had working here went to 7-11 in our plaza and bought lunch there, it's like 8-10.00 for all the crap he would get. I couldn't swing that.

...keep doing what you're doing, you'll only get what you've got...

BJ's club has the healthy choice meals and other precooked stuff you can just throw in the microwave. They are really not gourmet, but quick, easy and edible. At about $4 per meal, it is a pretty good deal.
I gave up meat and animal products last year, so quick and easy is getting harder to find, but (also at BJ's) Black Bean Burgers and Garden Veggie Patties they sell in bulk are really delicious* (made by Morningstar and in green box or bag). I usually have some Uncle Ben's rice or frozen veggies with it. That is a healthy meal in about 5 microwave min and still under $4.

*they do not taste like burgers and you will be disappointed if expecting so, but they do taste great.

I love frozen burritos. the pricier ones are the best. Also you can get frozen hamburger patties that are fully cooked and can be heated up in the microwave. Recently I bought a George Foreman grill and it can cook little steaks, pork chops, etc. in like, 5 minutes.

I love these recommendations.

Pierre, look up a recipie for the Houston's Veggie Burger.  It's outstanding.  But first go eat at one of their restaurants and see what I am talking about...it's heaven.  And yea, I can say that about a non-meat burger.

I am burned out on burritos.  Maybe because I buy the cheap ones.

I try and keep some small pizzas in the freezer for the toaster oven, or I make Alton Brown's grilled pizza and bring some of that in.  Bacon and dates are an awesome topping for those pizzas.

My taste in food has changed considerably since i was young. Back in high school I loved Big Macs, TV dinners, Hot Pockets, etc. but now I think all those are kinda gross...

what's the name of the restaurant? I can find the burger info, but no web page or name. . .

Second menu item.  They are owned by Hillstone, my sister works for them and my wife used to, so I would eat there at a discount.

I do leftovers.  But some times I like to have Tyson's grilled and ready chicken breast chunks with Wishbones Buffalo ranch dressing, or a frozen pizza.  But most of the time it is leftovers.

I think that anyone who has ever worked for someone else will agree that the best easy lunch is Pizza bought by the boss, just as donuts and danish make the first break.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

bummer, they don't have one close by. I'll trade you something from Michael Symon (Iron chef from cleveland) for one of Houston's! I would imagine the shipping would be pretty darn expensive, but it might be worth a try. Interested?

Shipping would be a killer.

Next time you are rolling through the atl, let me know, I have a houstons 10 minutes from the shop.  And THAT will teach to you swing by tony's place instead of mine. (I am sure his place was cooler).

sorry  :'(
I promise to stop by next time! We were in a time crunch driving to New Orleans and did not have time to do anything else. I have been dreaming about going to the Atlanta Aquarium and checking out the whale sharks since before they got them. It was tough to be right there and not have the few min to go and check it out. The time was that tight.

I can even stop by and see Tony in Memphis and bring some Jack's BBQ ribs. How does that sound?
