Need help ASAP M&R I Image S
« on: June 15, 2021, 02:16:18 PM »
Came in yesterday from the weekend, all devices were shut down from a power loss. Fired up the CTS and when we tried to send files to the machine we got an error about resolution not compatible with the number of passes. Why did anything change? I have no idea, I reloaded some back ups that were made when we got the machine, now the machine prints but it is out of calibration. I have been trying to reach M&R all day with zero joy, left messages, talked to one guy that forwarded me to the tech dept for the I Image no answer, kept calling back all day nothing!

We I need to print screens, dozens of them by tomorrow morning. Anyone here no how to calibrate the machine? I am attaching a very shitty image that shows how far off it is through a loop and phone camera. Regardless it is crap,

This happens when there is an irregular power shut down (power just goes off in the building).  More likely, you need to power the entire CTS operation down.
It has to be powered up in the correct sequence.

Close out of ALL programs on PC,
Close out of PC/Power that down.
Turn the Printer off at the back of the machine. I think that power button is somewhere different now on the S. but should still be near the back. It's a bright orange button.

Wait 10 seconds (as there is residual power/memory left in the boards that needs to drain out).

Power back up in in the reverse procedure.

Orange button on printer.
PC,
Open the Printer Control program first. (The other programs need to recognize a printer in order to open so open Printer control),
Then Color Print,
Then lastly, Print Production.

It should recognize all of your paths set up for archiving files, hot folders etc. and the Printer settings should have been in place.   The only other thing that could now be an issues if any, is that your curves on one saved setting, might be different on any new settings (since you mentioned you had already re-installed saved settings. Providing that you had any differences at all.

Often for things like this, (restarting) is a good first option and I mean "completely" restarting.

Also know that when the power goes out and it's just randomly restarted, it doesn't recognize all of the special settings that were put in and it reverts to default for the programing. So it might be set to default of lets say (600x900) resolution when M&R runs them at 1200x900.  A 12 pass (printer setting) might not run at 600x900 (if I remember correctly). So it would give you that error message and print result.  (Don't change any of these resolution settings. That could just create a rabbit hole.   Simply restart like above.

Does the I image fall under digital equipment? I am trying to figure out which Phone number that is the most direct to call.

So, you see there, that it says “can’t use 4pass” at the 1200x900 (color print folder setup resolution).  So restarting, has set all of the preferences on the PC system to the correct setting, but somehow, the (printer) itself has also defaulted back to the lowest 4pass setting.

In the PRINTER CONTROL program, you need to change that PRINT PASS to at least 6pass or more commonly, the 12 pass.

All fixed. I finally got a call from tech. What I needed to do was restore the control panel software to the back up. That I never did because in two years I never had to touch anything in the control software so I did not want to make a mistake there. He showed me how to restore, which changed the steps on the stepper motor. All stepper motors have to be calibrated, no two are the same.

Now that I know how to do this correctly I wrote it all down on a note pad I keep with the machine, for future reference.

I told him a good feature in the future updates for the control software is to lock out the printer settings tab somehow, to prevent accidental settings change by someone with thumbs for fingers etc. Put those advanced setting behind something more difficult to get into.

Same thing in a nut shell.   Restoring Printer Settings is the proper procedure, but you can also just change the print pass on the Printer to the 6 or 12.  Since you don’t mess with this in the Printer control, (most don’t), you would not know to do that.  Some shops change the print pass a lot, while most don’t touch it or chance anything.
