Dryer Exhaust

For everyone running a gas dryer, are you using single wall or double wall ducking for exhaust off the main burner? We have always used double wall, but our gas dryers have also only had 8" exhaust. We are getting a new dryer next week-ish and it requires a 10" duct which is turning up much more complicated to find locally in a double wall.

For those that use a single wall, does the duct itself put off much radiant heat?

you should be able to get at grainger or some place like it. then ship it to the local store if they don't have in stock.

We originally used single with a lot of high temp insulation.  It was actually pretty cool to the touch.  The original duct coming from the dryer to the exhaust gate was single wall flex, and that crap got hot.

We had it redone after a couple of years with double wall and had the original flex upgraded as well.  Still wrapped in high temp insulation.

Do the double wall.  It's code in most areas and it is safer.

was only 4' above and below roof here, we did single wall 12" as per M&R , we have no noticeable heat increase and with the new dryer actually have to turn the heat on in the shop in the winter.

Plus Double wall will keep your shop cooler.

Grainger should have it, but I can bet you it's cheaper elsewhere. Or get an HVAC company to do it for you and pay probably what Grainger wants for the ducts alone.

I paid around $1800 to have ours completely reworked.

i would have loved double wall ducting on our gas dryer exhaust but it’s so stupidly expensive.

Double wall is the code here too and very expensive.   Try the HVAC distributor locally.  That is their world.

Double wall here as well. Sourced through a local HVAC company. Stuff ain't cheap.

Double wall.  Someone told me B pipe is actually not the correct stuff for the application though...might want to ask a pro there, and by that I mean an HVAC person.

Big thing is to have your in/outtake vents on a separate system.  Our main stack is all B pipe to the roof.   In/outtake vents are tied to the main ventilation system.  While your at it I'd upgrade the outtake helper fan to one that has the motor outboard of the pipe and has a basic filter in line.
