Great interview!  I just got reminded of how small we are after that especially after hearing about how high your shipping cost is alone. 
It's not a job if you love doing it.

The good news, is that we get all that back from the customer. But it still sucks to have that much sitting on the table.

The good news, is that we get all that back from the customer.

It's harder for established stores, but if you are pitching clients / bands new stores for fulfillment, you should offer to take care of the accounting (ie take payments) and just cut them a check each month sans your fulfillment fees / shipping costs ect.

It's what we do for a few of our larger fulfillment customers and their accountants love it as they don't have to deal with accounting for each transaction, just get a check at the end of each month, then you have cash flow to cover the shipping costs up front.

You could technically slate it like you would take a lesser percentage as you wouldn't have to be a bank, but then make up that difference in other places.

I find it interesting you take a percentage of sales, I wouldn't price that way because it is the same work / cost to ship a $18 tee as a $29 dollar tee, but at 10% the first you get $1.80 and second $2.90 is a big discrepancy when doing the same service.

Great interview, it's cool to see how many different ways people can offer similar services on the administration side.

the accounting aspect is in our future for sure. right now, we aren't strong in that area, but are bringing in an internal book keeper, with the goal being, exactly what you are laying out. I'm hoping by early next year, we'll have all that squared away.
