HVLP gun for waterbased tack

Wow. Finally got around to hooking the cheap Harbor Freight gun up to the compressor
and giving it a whirl. Wow. Easily the fastest, neatest (in terms of coverage) evenest
tacking I've ever seen. Can't wait to try it on fleece.

Truth be told however, I wonder if we're sliding backwards in terms of airborne particulates in
the lungs and on the press. We'll have to figure out an overspray shield of some sort. I also
get the feeling that waterbased PVA floating around isn't nearly as bad as the solvent
that comes out of rattle cans. Could be wrong though.

Also, we'll see how the gun operates after sitting overnight.

Asa long as it last a week or two you should be good. That is the life span of most Harbor Freight tools.....lol Seriously though let us know how it works after the overnight test. I would think the only issue would be the tip and that is pretty easy to clean quickly.

I hear you on HF. My typical SOP with any new tool or technique is to find the cheapest version
available, usually HF and try it out to see if it's even viable. If it is, buy the genuine article.

You may as well just use an aerosol can.

The whole point of waterbase tack and using foam rollers or cards to apply it.. was to avoid the atomizing mist. You just went backwards. 

Oh yeah.. just because it's waterbased, it won't clean with water so you'll need chemical cleaners to remove the mist where it landed and stuck. The water is just the medium the glue is in to apply it.

I just snorted some Simple Green cut with water and it did not do much other than make me cough like the tack. My nose is clean though

Yeah, I was going to say that we can remove the glue down to the paper with water and a little
Simple Green.  Pretty sure it's all PVA anyways, horse hooves and whatnot. Whereas I'm pretty
sure aerosol stuff is a solvent based composition.

You will spray much less than if you were using the cans. Spray will sink to ground unlike the cans which float everywhere. But the overspray will coat everything it touches. Every Friday we clear the gun and run warm water through it to flush out the system. We also clean the nozzles at the end of every day. Haven't had any problems in 6 months of usage.

Been a week or so, still awesome. Haven't had clogs or done any cleaning yet. We did cut the glue with water a bit
more than usual, and it's been colder than a witches titty here. Works great for fleece as well. At $10 or whatever
I paid it's well worth it.

Thats good to hear. Does it dry fairly quickly when the pallets are nice and warm or do you have to wait a few for it?

Is the gun still holding up? Which one did you get from H Freight? Could you post a link?
