Static
« on: February 04, 2020, 02:40:16 PM »
One of our workers is getting shocks caused static when loading and loading.
Any ideas on how to stop this?
Seems to be a personal thing, nobody else is complaining.

This happened to me a few times in the past few weeks. Had no idea why

Use to happen in the winter (dry air) when we had the electric dryer. Once we switched to gas it stopped. *shrug*

When it's dryer out (in winter mostly) it happens here. There's a couple things I do to remedy it:

1.) Eucerin Original Healing Hand Cream keeps my fingers lookin' fine and may have something to do with anti-static - but probably not (inside joke going on over at Bryce's MHM post from Rusty that made my life).

2.) We got some anti-static mats. They're $96/ea. We don't use them at the presses, but in our screen room. With a Douthitt and Saati Autocoater on carpet the static can build. I've got both machines grounded and put the mat in front of them (link below). A $172 investment to protect two very expensive investments. Before then I'd get shocked every once in awhile on the Douthitt. Not anymore.

Could be the matt type too. We tried those foam squares that fit together like a puzzle and they were very good static generators!

We keep a box of dryer sheets around. We will tape a strip to the back of the dryer and let them drag as the shirts come out. We do the same with the last screen. We sometimes wear them too.

One of our pullers keeps dryer sheets in her pocket, whether it is working or not I cannot say but she feels it does. I have an anti static strap for my wrist that I attach to the dryer and I use it when I go in the back to help pull because for some reason I get whacked exceptionally hard and the strap works 100% but is cumbersome if you forget you have it on.

You can mix a little bit of fabric softener into water and mist yourself.

I got shocked on the tip one time too...and on the nipple.

Same thing here and sometimes it's a real good pop!!!!, If I'm not mistaken it only happens when we do poly blends, so I just deal with it.

I always discharge to something metal, sy slapping it quickly, then it's not a surprise, and you don't feel it.
