Need Advice - Picking Up A New (to me) Manual Press

Picking up an M&R Chameleon - location only has a dock door.   I’ve got a 18’ utility trailer. 

My only thought is to rent a forklift to get from dock height to ground level, in order to put on a pallet jack and push into the trailer.  Load is 1400 lbs or so.  Sucks to pay day rate for 1-2mins work. 

Any other options that I’m not thinking off?  Thanks!

See if they have a neighbor that has a forklift and ask them if they are willing and pay them.

Towing company....call in a flatbed wrecker. They pull the crate with the pallet jack onto the bed, tilt the bed flat, then line wrecker up with trailer and pull crate in. Ive done several shipments this way. In fact, it earned us a towing comapny as a client!

why not break it down , I picked up my 6/6 chameleon in a pickup truck and can't remember it being an issue or taking long.

I’ve considered that - this is an 8/8.  How heavy is the carousel?

Seems like that would cost about same as a forklift day rental??   Forklift would probably be quicker too?

If you take it apart, be sure it can be put back together properly; I know with their autos,  you really need and M&R tech to put it together or it won't be right...

pretty sure i took off each head , then separated the carousel from the base, I was by myself and the owner helped me pick it up.

each pallet arm has a number stamped  in it that corresponds to the base also has pegs for alignment, I would number the heads but I think they can move around.

I’ve moved several of these and broken them down in varying degrees to make it work. I generally use a pallet jack and a ramp trailer. PM me if you’d like to chat.

Heads are also stamped/drilled to match the carousel

Thank you.  We will have a pallet jack, but the 4’ drop from dock door to ground level is my concern. 

Someone else suggested a ramp from dock height to trailer, but I’m not liking that idea.  Lol

Ohhhhhh gotcha. The base is about 42-43”. No double door leading to an exterior walkway, huh?

I have also used 10’ sections of 4x6 to make a slide from one level to the next. I’ll draw a pic and post. $45 in lumber is definitely worth it.

1. Place Chameleon at edge having removed arms and heads.

2. Place 4x6x10 (two or three) under the base just far enough to catch rear base tube. The feet should straddle the 4x6 and be riding on the base tubes. Consider 12’ sections if you want a less extreme angle.

3. Lever your 4x6 sections down til they reach the trailer.

4. Slide Chameleon down the ramp.

5. Drink a beer.
