Static Frames. Remesh or Recycle?

How many of you static users actually get your frames remeshed? I have a stack of frames and wondering if it's worth the bother. Side note: I use S-Mesh screens.

When I was using statics I sent them out. It seemed worth it. I think it saved 5-10 bucks per screen as appose to buying new. Even with shipping to and from Spot Color. I was using s-thread statics as well. Mainly switched to EZ frames now because I like being able to get a screen back in rotation quickly if it pops or has too many holes.

I think this all comes down to your geography. The thought of shipping a skid of empty frames makes my head hurt.

What I’m doing now is I found a guy that stretches screens locally, just doesn’t do the mesh I want. So he is buying our old frames for a couple bucks each. Hopefully more than I’d get for scrap but I never explored that option.

We do boxes of 10 at a time to get remeshed.  It's easy enough.

We did use to have Newman roller frames and a stretch table but since we use an auto reclaim we moved to statics only and get them remeshed out of house.  It may cost slightly more than the Newmans in house, but they cost less to reclaim each time and stay much cleaner.

Can you get S Mesh in the EZ Panels yet?  That's what has been keeping me from switching.

Can you get S Mesh in the EZ Panels yet?  That's what has been keeping me from switching.

Yeah They've been available for a while. I only have S Mesh on my EZ frames.

I always enjoyed stretching screens for some reason, and that part of me can't send them out. But then if you compare the cost of sending them out and getting them back vs. the time you spend doing something more profitable instead of stretching screens. Now we have guy for just screens, and he can stretch with our air stretcher, plus we have EZ frames as well. We'll tend to let frames pile up and restretch during January and February. But again, if you don't have a dedicated screen person, sending out may make a lot of sense for you.

Restretching Screens can be done correctly or incorrectly.  First thing you have to to do is clean and prep the old frames before you remesh. Need everything off the surface including Mesh. Glue buildup. and inks. Most important thing is your prep. If you have a clean prep job with today's aluminum frames they can be just as good remeshed as they were new.  Getting equal and balanced stretching is also important. If you don't have this you will twist and bend the mesh and glue it to the frame unbalanced.  Shipping is a extra cost so i would try to stay as close to home base if possible.  We offer free return shipping on all of our remeshing to help reduce cost.

There is a sales rep(good guy) that calls on us and he was talking about setting up a "collection" of sorts where they were going to do free monthly or something pick ups and free return shipping. Not sure how firmed up his plan ever got, or the exact details but they are good people.
