Computer recommendations
« on: January 25, 2020, 12:08:22 PM »
I want to buy a new computer.      Might be a lap top.
What are the ideal requirements for graphics?
I will be running Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel on this unit.

First off, in my opinion, "ideal" and "graphics" don't mesh with a laptop because of the limited real estate of the screen.
The portability forces a compromise.
That said, you want at least 16GB memory, and a solid state drive for your OS and applications.
I'm fairly happy with my Lenovo Flex 5, and I heard good things about Dell XPS
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I don't remember the specs on mine but about 3 years ago I got an HP Omen. Lots of ram, ssd drive for OS and apps. Everyday I run PS, AI, Wilcom, and other various apps like a browser and mail etc all at the same time. Zero hiccups. As much as I don't like Windows, I do love that machine! At the time it came in around $1300 with a 27" monitor.

Find a used Lenovo Thinkstation (yes, I am going there again, and yes, we bought more when replacing the Windows 7 boxes. Not sure if you can get used over there, but if you can find it, send it to me and ill shipit for you.
As Frog said, 16gb is your minimum. SSD at 512 or more. We run ECC memory on ours, but it might not be necessary.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

To dive even deeper the majority of the programs our industry uses are single threaded so you want faster single
core performance rather than more, slower cores.
