More cost effective alternative to fashion soft base
« on: November 11, 2019, 10:38:06 AM »
I've been using fashion soft base for a few years and last month I bought a soft hand base from another vendor because it was less than half the price of FSB. I wasn't really happy with the look or feel and thought I would ask before I order another batch of FSB.

Thanks,
Wm.

How much difference per print are we talking about? Don't fall into the trap of being
penny wise and pound foolish"
That said, there must be plenty of soft bases out there that folks like.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Exactly what I was thinking. I think the look and feel of FSB is worth the extra cost. Just wondering if there is something else.

Similar products to Fashion Soft:

Softee Base - QCM
Chino Base - Rutland
Ultra Soft Primer Clear - Rutland
I always forget the name of IC's product.

These are all very liquid products which I believe is giving you the results that you prefer.

If you go to a "Soft Hand" product, the print will still have more body, and therefore more "hand" in comparison.  Nothing wrong with that, it just depends on what your expectations are.
Been in the industry since 1996.  5+ years with QCM Inks.  Been a part of shops of all sizes and abilities both as a printer and as an Artist/separator.  I am now the Ink and Chemical Product Manager at Ryonet.

Some folks use Wilflex Nova Base as well. It is less expensive. Yes, it’s purpose is as a dry glitter adhesive, but it can be used as a softener. It is lower in viscosity though than FSB.
