I like Numbers a lot and agree w. Mr. Pitman on the formula window. It can open and save to excel format and will bring up a list of any import issues when you open excel files inside of it. I've found the files to play well with each other between the two programs.
My favorite thing about Numbers is the way you can layout multiple sheets that are feeding into one another on a single screen. It's just a little thing but makes a huge difference in ease of use when you're adjusting and visualizing, say, a detailed budget with many categories. You don't have to tab back and forth to check totals, etc. Like many apple things Numbers does just about the same thing as Excel, sans a few features but much easier to work with visually.
G-docs spreadsheets are nice as well but far more limited in the fancier functions. I believe I saw that pivot tables were now available though. If you could use multiple g-docs sheets as a light database that's web-hosted it could be extremely useful.

I use Numbers and Pages on my iPad as well and they really work great. Only $9.99 for the apps on iPad, $19.99 for your Mac. It will open .xls

Have had the Ipad for a bit now the Numbers app is working awesome little cumbersome in some areas but for being on a tablet no complaints.
Now my biggest problem is the email program built in. I have it set up fine to pull emails from my server but no matter what I try it deletes averything from the server, I need the emails to remain on the server so my other computers can also pull the emails.
Guess I am asking if there is users out there that know a good email app that works with POP and has more controls than the ipads built in?

Not about mail, but I was mistaken about Numbers having only the small editing "button" for formula creation. There's also a window at the top that displays the formula from the selected cell. You might have already figured this out or noticed it by now anyway.
If I didn't have my laptop, I'd get an iPad. Fooled with one at the Apple Store while I was trying to cadge a replacement battery from one of the "geniuses" and I gotta say, they're cool as hell.

POP by design should always delete the emails from the server. If you are not deleting them with other devices, they are probably set up as IMAP. Check the settings on them and see if that's right. . .
