Ah, I figured it had something to do with relying on major clients. Thanks for the info.

we lost one of our largest customers about 10 years ago - the owners laid off about 40 people.  its not fun to see a lot of good people leave.

This could be an interesting auction, I seem to remember Castle did some R&R and product testing for M&R.  May very well be some one off configurations so make sure you get specs  and serial numbers to register for service.

Yes, When Dan Zmuda owed the company it was very successful. Dan actually started Castle in his garage printing table cloths. He sold it several years ago and now is regional manager for Naz Dar on the east coast.

There are lots of ways a company fails. It could be price being too high or too low. Could be quality being too high or too low in relation to what you offer. Could be poor money management. Could be bad working conditions. Could be stuffing too many eggs in 1 basket. Could be a combo of all that.

Point being what works for your business better be something you have your finger on the pulse of.

Agreed on all points. As I begin to relearn, I see some reasons why the big ones fail. Throw in the big boys that advertise on TV. To be sure some of the small to mids do as well. All that said, many do quite nicely and I wish all well and best of fortune. Find your eye.

Some shops buy there way out of biz, buying new equipment that they really can do without, but Brandt touched on a lot of good reasons.

The Alpha 8 went for $24,250 plus buyer’s premium and the Stryker for 76k plus premium.  I took notes.  The flashes sold for good money.  They can be hard to find used.

I thought that was a pretty sweat deal on the Stryker. The press was practically new. If I knew about the sale sooner I may have looked at it.

I might have bought at 76k, but I do think a round press fits our shop space better. I hope to pull trigger really soon on a 18/20.

The big thing with that Stryker  is it did not have the upgrade and that will need to be done. The upgrade cost is 30k before negotiating.
