Screen Printing Setup Tip: Mixing Your Ink to Save Time
« on: June 12, 2019, 08:06:14 PM »
Matt Marcotte explains how a $30 device reduces screen printing setup time and stops fatigue. Instead of taking 40 minutes on press for your ink to become friendly, smooth, and warm – a mixing blade will make your ink press-ready in minutes.

If you're a manual screen printer, this will save your forearms and wrists. If you're printing with an automatic press, the ink behaves as it would once your pallets are warm and your press has been operating for a bit.

For your white ink, just leave the mixing blade in the ink! You can have a couple other mixing blades for different colors.

Bonus tip: warm your pallets to around 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) for much easier wet-on-wet printing. This works because the higher temperature helps to (very slightly) dry the ink. This prevents on-press color mixing and other wet-on-wet screen printing problems.
