Equipment maintenance

Didn't want to take away from Rockers post about his support arm being loose, but it brings me to ask how often do you check your press, check for loose bolts, brackets, air fittings maybe a stress crack etc.  I know for one I've over looked a problem or two because we are under heavy production and long as it is printing we roll and say I'll get to it later.  I guess that is just about the case of owning anything your house, car etc if a problem starts fix it right then and there...cost your a few bucks now or pay out the booty later, thing I go take a look at our press this morning while stuff is warming up LOL.

Following a steady maintenance program is difficult when things are busy. I think every shop works around small issues. We do well with the oilers, greasing and filter cleaning but the rest we need to work on or your right it becomes a big problem. We have a M/R tech in here all this week due to exactly that. He has a full page list of issues.

We do the required maintenance end of shift and if we can't / don't have time for it they email it needs to be done by the next team.

Some of the dryer maintenance is harder to get to though.  Every Monday morning grease those bearings though.

Be sure at least all the preventative maintenance is done on time and you are pretty golden with most equipment.

The main part of cleaning our equipment is the opportunity for inspection. If the press is dirty it gets cleaned, and that’s when we are checking for loose bolts and other defects. Two birds stoned at once.

I wouldn’t say it gets cleaned daily but probably top-to-bottom once a month. Other than that we do the scheduled maintenance like at 50k indexes, 100k etc.

We gotta look at our dryer bearings though. That’s a good one.

I grease the center shaft of my press most frequently, as my tech said that's the only thing that can't really be fixed/replaced if something should go wrong with it. Otherwise I follow the maintenance reminders the press flashes when it's time to do so. Making a habit of keeping the press clean as well.
