Spalding® recently launched U-DESIGN, its new interactive e-commerce experience on Spalding.com. Website shoppers can now customize a Spalding basketball with official National Basketball Association (NBA) team logos, throwback team logos, and personal text.

Spalding has chosen InkSoft as their technology partner to make this customization possible. The InkSoft Design Studio has the ability to allow end-users to choose designs, text, and layouts to customize a blank product. For Spalding, one of those blank products is the iconic leather official NBA game ball.

JP Hunt, co-founder of InkSoft says that “we’re seeing a rush of demand from consumers wanting a custom design experience, and InkSoft is the solution that delivers exactly that. We are proud to partner with forward-thinking and industry-leading brands like Spalding.”

Spalding first used InkSoft’s customization technology for their B2B e-commerce site in 2017. Following a successful integration, the world’s largest basketball manufacturer launched U-DESIGN on their website to bring customization to online shoppers.

"The launch of U-DESIGN allows us to expand our online offering and meet the demand for personalization that encourages our customers to channel their creativity, celebrate a special occasion, and leave their mark on the game," said Matt Day, digital marketing and e-commerce manager for the Spalding brand. “InkSoft provided us with a user-friendly platform that fans of the game will enjoy using,” Day added.

Shoppers use the online designer and can see in real time what their custom ball will look like before it is laser-engraved. All customized orders created through U-DESIGN ship in approximately three  business days, making it one of the fastest custom basketball applications available today.

I am going to leave this (we normally delete anything InkSoft related) only so I can tack on a warning to anybody thinking about using their services. After all these years, I am yet to hear from somebody who had any success with them! Most ppl just cut their losses and stop using them. Some have wasted thousands of dollars without any sales (yes $0). . .

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

That's good to know.

I do like their podcast with Marshall Atkinson though.

I am yet to read something from MA that I did not like. It is also why I was baffled about him going to work for IS!

here's more conversation on the IS topic:
