can I use a color to under base my white
« on: October 11, 2018, 09:35:12 AM »
Good morning,
I have a simple print. It is white and red ink on gray tees. Can I print the red ink, flash and print the white over red? I feel like that could save 1 screen. If I do a white base, flash then red and highlight white it is the same print time... but Can I save the screen? Any thoughts/experience is always appreciated.

you can print a red that has enough coverage without an underbase?

you can print white over a color, just know that it will take on that shade, at least in my experience it has.

personally, I would P/F/P/F -> Red.... I don't really like stepping on red, it's always tacky...

as far as your question, try it and fill us in! I don't think it will work with these two colors but wtf do I know....
...keep doing what you're doing, you'll only get what you've got...

The other option is to put a flash between the red and top white.  I agree, red can be sticky, especially with that much coverage.

We could, but we wouldn't. White base, flash, red or highlight white, flash, last color. It will look much better, if that counts...

How many is it for?
Personally if it is less than 30 qty i p/f/p/f white, top red.

More than 30 qty:
white base
flash
top white
flash
Red

i dunno why everyone puts top white last.
red with that coverage, yes can suck to print after. top white isn't nearly as bad to print after.
UB white Flash top white then red wow
leave a little gutter between top colors if you don't print/register super accurate.

my thought is white first down full under base for the red with a little choke with a 156 or 195mesh , flash it, hit the white again same screen, then drop a red one hit on the white use a 230 mesh and done.
works for us (most of the time) Just be sure you have a good EOM on the red 230 and don't overpower the print stroke.

I did not try it. The shirt was charcoal so it was darker than expected and I am a little too busy to start testing right now. I will at some point take a stab at this though. White always looks pretty good over any printed color when I am printing my test tees while setting up. When I get around to it I will post.
I ended up printing white PFPF (same screen 2x around) and red on top. It was only 54 shirts. I have not yet decided where to draw the line for making 2 screens or 2 times around the press... This is right in the area though. I am thinking anything over 60 or maybe 70. I have to figure out if it takes longer to reclaim a screen than go around twice.

Wouldn't print white over red either, don't know how many you have to print but I would roll around twice and print red last over a white base using two screens, but if you want speed 3 screens and be done with it. ;)
