make an Epson 3000 print with only black ink installed?
« on: December 06, 2011, 02:25:26 PM »
I heard there was a way to make an Epson 3000 printer print with only the black cart installed....does anyone here know how to do this? I heard of two different ways...one dealt with going into the guts og the printer and reconfiguring things...and the other method was I there is some kind of chip out there i put in the other cart slots and this tricks the printer into thinking all the carts are installed..cost like $35??

im doing online searches and havent come across anything yet.

anyone have an idea about this?

do you have the other carts?  if so, look at the side of the cart and there will be a small rectangular hole.  in that hole is a tab that sticks out.  cut that off.  problem solved.

you can also fill color carts with water.

the little tabs tell the printer when the ink is low. You can also try to just shove them in so they are not sticking out of the holes.

if you do not have the cartridges, go to compandsave.com and buy them. I was paying $6 for the black ink and I think the colors are in the same price range. So you'd spend about $18 on the full cartridges that you can just let dry out. . .

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

I will try both suggestions. My Epson 3000 has been sitting dormant for 6 years in my office...I have my biz back up and running and need to get that sucker back to printing. I have new in box the cyan and the yellow..purchased 6 years ago. So I just may as well justy go buy the magenta and black and start all over....was trying to just buy that black ink only and some how configure it to print with just the black installed....thank you for the suggestions and the day will come when I utilize them I'm sure.

There was a couple of Epson Gurus trolling the board for a while, can't remember the names but were very smart about the units. Try search Epson 3000 and see if you can come up with there names. P may remember

The 3000 I use everyday always has the color cartridges installed, and not empty.

They don't see much use, but on occasion they do. Which is handy. I do a color head clean ( aside from the automatic ) now and then.

6 years dormant...yikes...go get this:
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

You may need the power cleaning utility to help nurse the head back to life.
Even if it doesn't bring your printhead back to life, that's a very handy program to have if you use a 3000.

And of course, there's some folks around who can completely rebuild you one.

Best of luck.

I run 2 3000's.  One for job tickets and the other for film.  The job ticket printer is also a backup for my film printer.

I am not as dumb as I look. (Although I have never actually tried to print a film from it.)
