MSP 3140 to Starlight 2331 switch

Has anyone made the switch to the new Starlight from a msp3140, one has come up used ( basically new) in my area and I'm not sure if the switch would be a benefit , also if anyone knows whats he MSRP on a 2331 tabletop version.

23x31 is what we use , I'm assuming the triloc frame/jig will work on it as well

I have the Starlight 3140 and use the tri-lock with it. It is my understanding the tri-lock will not work in the Starlight 2331. The unit is to small for the tri-lock system.

We did that exact same switch.

We DEFINITELY benefited.  Exposures are faster and depending on your emulsion of choice, far better detail.

We were using the PHU, exposures were to fast.  We had a chance to switch to Murakami T9, so we did.  We add Diazo to it for even better resolution and to slow down the exposure times!  Love it.

The Starlight 2331 will handle the 23x31 screen, but if you are using the Tri-lock Master frame you need to go with the larger Starlight 3140.

well that sucks, its an awesome deal but need to use the 23x31 master frame on it too bad.

I have used the Tri-Loc jig on my Starlight 2331 for over 3 years now doing dozens of screens everyday.
I have replaced the blanket twice in 4 years. No glass issues.

Yes, the Tri-loc Master frame will fit on the Starlight 2331, but we do not recommend it.  The reason we do not recommend it is not that it will not fit, but that the space between the Master Frame and the Blanket Frame is very small, putting more pressure on the blanket. Of course the other factor is the number of screens being exposed daily.

I had the same confusion when I looked at the Starlight.

If the only risk is the blanket, well, the price difference is pretty huge. That’s a LOT of blankets.

Yes, blankets wear out faster; technically. But we have replaced twice ($60ea.) in four years; not enough to justify the cost of going with a bigger unit as we only use 23x31 screens.  We also added some additional 1/2" sticky foam insulation tape behind the spring pins to keep the blanket from having to get sucked all the way down behind them to seal. That reduces a lot of wear. We keep a tube of silicone on hand to patch inevitable holes and tears. That adds lifespan.
