sewing on tags
« on: August 22, 2016, 05:41:32 PM »
Our need to sew on tags for garments is increasing like crazy.

The current place we outsource to, can have a huge lead time, so we'd like to figure out how to bring this in house.

I know NOTHING about embroidery or sewing, so looking for some tips on what type of machine to look for?

We also use Juki to sew our garments.
Get a Japanese brand, don't get Chinese brands even though the Japanese brands are built in China.
I believe in our part of the world Juki cost $100 or $200 more than a Chinese brand. It adds up when you start buying over 100 machines.

If you are going for second hand, make sure of the following.
1. Servo driven: this can save over 70% of electricity, the old clutch driven ones have the motor running non stop. Also servo driven needs less maintenance.
2. auto-thread cutter, it is not just faster but it can save thread.

Juki is by far the best brand. The machines we have have auto positioning motors, and thread cut. Also is able to program exact sitches for the tag.

what's a good starter model?

Wondering if you ever ended up purchasing one and what you got? I can sew hem tags using my cheap little brother machine but I am starting to get into more custom stuff and its not cutting it. I saw this post from Printed Threads and this machine looks awesome but cant figure out what it is. I currently have 100 flannels I need to sew fold over tags onto the pockets but cant get it done on my Brother without sewing the pocket shut. This machine would do the trick but cant find info on it:
