Anything wrong with Diamond Roller frames?

They LOOK identical to newmans... but that is what makes me suspect.

I had a couple and they stripped out really fast. They just don't seem as well built or engineered as Newmans.

I was actually looking into the panel frames version of roller frames, right before this whole mess broke, one thing that convinced me to say fk it was the resale value of the newmans vs other brands. If I had to bail on rollers for whatever reason, I can get more money out of them than say a "green screen" or whatever the hell they are called. I am assuming the same with these frames you are talking about.

Diamond Chase products I used over the years are sound, but I never tried one of the rollers...

I have some diamond chase rollers and newmans rollers both for manual printing this might not be apples to apples as I bought them used and don't know how old each are, but the diamond to me are pretty solid all metal where as my newmans have some plastic coners which I don't think they use anymore, here check out the pics.  I think they are both good frames WHO CARES what Sam sezs LOL.

If you're refering to Diamond Chase roller frames, I used them for years, I had about 200 of them, there's nothing wrong with them at all, and I never thought there was an appreciable difference in construction from my Newmans as long as you compare apples to apples, that is the tube diameter.  A lot of people don't realize what they have, an MZX is not the same as an M3, a Diamond C 1.4 is not as strong as a 1.6.  Mine never stripped out.

The other main difference is the locking system, DC uses two cylindrical plastic rods that are pressed together with a roller to lock the mesh, Newmans use the flat locking strip, either one has it's advantages/disadvantages.  Diamond C frames are easier to stretch without any stretching device (rollermaster etc) because as you push down the wrench to tighten the mesh on one side, the opposite side of the frame is forcing itself downward instead of upward like a newman, so you can use just a flat table if you want with little trouble.  Newmans are more standard though, so there's more on the market that is compatible with them (pin reg, tensioning tables galore, multiple choices for panels).  If I'm not mistaken, you can still get Shurloc panels for DC frames, but you'd have to call Shurloc to verify.

I've got a half dozen I bought when I first got started. I was gonna get rid of them since I can't use them with my stretching table, but I had so e 86 mesh laying around, so I meshed them up with that to make number plastisol transfers. You need to get the "pizza wheel" tool to install the tensioning rods that secure the mesh to the frame. The one thing I do like about them is each roller uses a right- and left-hand threaded nut at opposite ends, which when tightening, tends to flatten the frame. Sometimes getting the tensioning rods installed is kind of a pain. If I didn't have the frame table, and I ran across some that were priced right, I wouldn't turn them down, but to buy new, I'd get the Newmans.

I'm looking at some used.

So in the end can't say it's a bad deal as I probably won't "lose" money if I sell them later.

IF they strip out is there some sort of repair or are they toast at that point?

If I recall correctly, the studs were permenantly welded to the tubes, and the lock washer and nut and stud, all were stainless on my frames.  If you get them in good condition and cheap, it would be a nice score.

Personally I've gone away from rollers entirely, but that's a book of reasons I don't have time to write, besides, I don't want to start a "screen war".

Hate them, I bought 6 brandnew  , 3 of them the screws either stripped or snapped off, takes longer to stretch due to the pipes vrs locking strips (new ones have newman locking strips, those are nice) , they weigh a lot more than newmans. If you baby them , have the spring strength to hold them up and have the extra time to screw around with piping strips vrs locking strips their fine. My advice would be purchase a torqe wrench and be sure not to over work the nuts, not being able to get them as tight as newmans creates a problem when trying to get them flat the whole damn bar moves nt just the corner your trying to get flat.

Save your money and get the best, Newmans!
