Olec 5K MH bulb?
« on: January 23, 2017, 09:48:15 AM »
Turned the exposure unit on this morning and everything seemed good, but no light.  Turned it off, checked everything, no issues.  Turned it back on and it worked.  This has happened a few times and I'm just curious what the issue might be.  Any ideas?

Safety circuit.  Check the glass on the lamp,  it hold down a lever that will disable the light if it lifts up.

I've experienced this before.  That lever on the glass is a good idea to check.

I eventually just replaced the bulb and that worked...until it didn't.  Ended up being the trigger board.  Given my list of symptoms it was a textbook case.  If I recall correctly it doesn't need to trigger board too much when a bulb is brand new so it masked the problem.

...thinking back, maybe it was the cap bank I replaced.  I don't know, it's been a few years.  That thing is so damn reliable.

I'll toss in that it's worth the coin imo to buy the Olec bulbs.  Not a whole lot more in cost per screen if you really get down to it and word is that they have a higher amount of the rare earth metals that generate the good stuff on the uv spectrum, so stronger output essentially.  No great way to test that efficiently but for the extra 150 I thought it was worth it when we ran MH.

Everyone is right on track.   A new bulb usually will run for a few weeks even with a bad trigger board (trigger board is not needed once the bulb is lit) but as the bulb ages then it needs a good trigger board.

Capacitors are easy to check.  As stated, using oem bulbs is extremely important.

As stated, I am glad to help by phone or email.  We have been selling and supporting this light for over 30 years.
